Washington City Paper has a new Loose Lips columnist: Will Sommer.

If you read City Paper regularly, you already know Sommer’s excellent work; over the last year, he’s been running our City Desk blog, as well as turning out cover stories and odes to hippos and serving as the Washington Post‘s self-appointed new ombudsman. He’s got a keen eye for public documents and breaking news, and he’s already been a diligent watchdog of the Post, which should prepare him well for his new assignment. A native of Houston, he first moved to D.C. to attend Georgetown University in 2006, and his City Paper ties go back almost as long; he was an intern here in 2010. His stories are always sharply observed and entertaining—and that was before he started covering the D.C. Council.

Now we’ll be turning him loose on the Wilson Building and its denizens full-time, and we look forward to his witty dispatches from around the District as next year’s elections loom. His mission as LL will be to ferret out wrongdoing in government, to let readers know about the deals the big players in town would rather keep secret, to tell the story of the ways power is wielded in District politics, and to make sure City Paper remains a trusted source for news, analysis, and (when called for) attitude about our city’s leaders.
