Gay-friendly District voters can’t go wrong in the mayor’s race, according to new ratings from an LGBTQ activist group. The main three mayoral candidates all received top ratings from the District’s Gay and Lesbian Activists Alliance.

Of course, this being the somewhat idiosyncratic GLAA system, it’s not that simple. David Catania scored a perfect +10 on ratings, which run from +10 to -10, while Democratic rival Muriel Bowser received +9, up from the +5.5 she received in the primary after submitting a new questionnaire to the group. Carol Schwartz, meanwhile, received an +8.5.

“We’re making somewhat fine distinctions between established friends,” says GLAA president Rick Rosendall.

The candidates were graded on 12 questions about the group’s issues, from HIV/AIDS programs to finding space for an LGBTQ resource center expected to be displaced if 14th Street’s Reeves Center is swapped for soccer stadium land.

In the D.C. Council at-large race, lesbian activist Courtney Snowden received a +10, followed by Graylan Hagler (+9), Elissa Silverman (+8), and Robert White (+7.5). The other at-large candidates either scored lower or didn’t return the questionnaires at all. Perennial candidate Calvin Gurley notably received a +2, with the group complaining that he offered only “confused rants.”
