In a potential sign of left-wing discontent with Muriel Bowser, progressive group D.C. for Democracy endorsed four challengers to Bowser-affiliated D.C. Council candidates last week.

D.C. for Democracy claims roughly 500 members. Faced with endorsing Bowser ally and Ward 2 Councilmember Jack Evans, who isn’t facing any challenger in the June primary, the group instead voted not to endorse at all.

The anti-Green Team mood continued in the at-large race, where the group backed Vincent Orange challenger Robert White with nearly 96 percent of endorsement votes cast.

Instead of backing Bowser incumbent Brandon Todd in Ward 4, nearly 80 percent of D.C. for Democracy members casting ballots voted for Leon Andrews. Similarly in Ward 8, Trayon White won almost 90 percent of the endorsement vote against incumbent LaRuby May.

In Ward 7, ex-mayor turned Council hopeful Vince Gray landed the D.C. for Democracy endorsement with 67 percent of votes over Bowser-backed incumbent Yvette Alexander. Gray also earned labor endorsements last week from three unions: laborers’ union LiUNA, the Building Trades Council, and the retail workers union UFCW.
