Way out on Foxhall Road—which is usually preceded in real estate lingo by words like “exquisite” and “exclusive”—a 16-acre, decidedly new-money subdivision has been gradually filling in with luxury homes. By my count on Phillips Park’s online site plan, 29 out of 46 lots are accounted for. The latest? 2104 Dunmore Lane, bought by the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates for 3.650 million on November 4th (only $145,000 under asking).

The Italianate manse, built in 2010 to look hundreds of years old, is “orchestrated for entertaining,” with a media room, wine room, and au pair room, on top of six bedrooms, a two-story great room, etc. etc. It’s a departure in style, if not in grandiosity, from the UAE’s Moorish modernist embassy building in Van Ness. No word yet from the embassy or the realtor on what the house will be used for. If it’s the ambassador himself, I’m sure he’ll be welcomed by socialites Greg and Stacey Lubar (neighbors to the right) and investment bankers Eve Benton and Martin Bund (a couple houses to the left).

The purchase also means one fewer for the even newer and emptier subdivision just down the road at 1801 Foxhall, which was hoping for an embassy when I last checked in. The problem there seems to be that it’s hard to be the first.
