The long-awaited Marriott Marquis next to the Convention Center finally opened last week, and with it come three new restaurants (with a fourth, independently operated eatery on the way). The new dining options: a diner called Anthem, a whiskey lounge called The Dignitary, and a sports bar named High Velocity. The hotel isn’t sharing details about the tenant of the fourth restaurant space yet, but it’s set to open late this year.

Anthem
Before he ever opened a hotel, J. Willard “Bill” Marriott ran an A&W Root Beer stand in Columbia Heights, which eventually grew into the Hot Shoppes diner chain. The last of the restaurants closed in Marlow Heights, Md. in 1999, but now a version of the iconic brand is back with Anthem. The menu includes all-day breakfast plus some items from the original Hot Shoppes, including the Mighty Mo burger with onion rings and the Teen Twist sandwich with sugar-cured ham, American cheese, and tartar sauce. Anthem is open for breakfast and lunch only.

The Dignitary
The most upscale of the Marriott’s dining options, The Dignitary focuses on whiskey and “small bites.” The liquor collection is heaviest on bourbon, but there’s Irish whisky, Scotch, rye, and other spirits, too. A small bourbon cocktail selection plus beers and wines are also available. The food offerings are somewhat limited, with dishes like cheese, charcuterie, flatbreads, and a yellow tomato gazpacho. There’s a working fireplace for the cold months. And when it’s warm, The Dignitary will service the hotel’s vast outdoor patio (coming soon).

High Velocity
This sports bar features 48 beers on tap, including some local brews from DC Brau, 3 Stars, and Atlas Brew Works. Moscow Mules are another specialty, with 10 versions to choose from. They’re served in the signature copper mugs, which are a favorite among restaurant thieves. Food options are pretty standard sports-bar grub: nachos, wings, sandwiches, and chili cheese dog sliders. Whether you’re sitting in a booth, at the bar, or at one of the high-tops fashioned out of surf boards, you’ve got a view of one of the 36 flat-screen TVs. There are also smartphone charging stations, wifi, and a ticker tape scrolling the latest sports scores.

Mystery Fourth Restaurant
This is the only independently operated restaurant at the Marriott Marquis. Reps for the hotel aren’t saying who will be taking over the space yet, but Y&H hears that the tenant has establishments in New York, Chicago, and Miami (but not yet D.C.). Feel free to take makes some guesses in the comments.
