This should make for some awkward encounters around the Wilson Building. At-Large Councilmember David Grosso tells LL that he’s endorsing Ward 1 challenger Brianne Nadeau in her bid to unseat incumbent Jim Graham.

“It’s not normal for councilmembers to endorse people who are running against their colleagues,” Grosso says.

Grosso says he chose to support Nadeau instead of fellow challenger Bryan Weaver because he wants to see more women on the Council. As for Graham, Grosso says he thinks it’s time for him to move on.

“I think he’s done a decent job in the Council, but I think we all have a time where we have to step aside and let new folk come in,” Grosso says.

Grosso’s recorded a robocall for Nadeau, and plans to do more later in the campaign. Graham didn’t respond to LL’s request for comment. Listen to the call below:

Update3:30 p.m.: In a statement, Graham writes that he doesn’t think an endorsement from Grosso, an independent, will have much of an effect on the race.

“This is a Democratic primary,” Graham emails LL. “David isn’t a Democrat. I am not sure his support matters one way or another.”
