Tracey D Hughes: "I've lived in New York for nearly 14 years. I never let a year pass by without a Chuck B. concert. My HS yrs in MD intro'd me to a music unlike any other - Go Go. It was love at first listen. The Godfather of Go Go not only created Chocolate City's soundtrack, he was our musical mascot. He played tirelessly for the people. We embraced every note w/ shouts of 'Wind Me Up Chuck,' rushing the stage and dancing with abandon. His music defined the DC area with a sound all its own. Our Go Go roots run deep. His legacy lives on."
Chuck Brown used to pad his appointments by 20 minutes on either end—whether it was a public performance, a quick lunch, or a doctor’s appointment. Everywhere he went, people stopped him and asked to have a picture taken with him. And Brown never turned down a request. He was, quite possibly, the most photographed man in D.C. As D.C. mourned, we asked readers to send us their quickly snapped pictures—at concerts, at sporting events, on the street—standing next to Brown. No surprise: In each and every shot, he’s flashing the same smile.
