We face the apartment building, which is shrouded in dark wrought iron. The washed-out façade is the sickly green of a hospital uniform. My older sister and I travel around the perimeter, searching for a point of entry. A sign leads us to an office where a woman behind plexiglass buzzes us in. She gives us hazy directions to Apartment 235 that leave us still confused, but showing our home-training, my sister and I politely say thank you and take our leave. We traverse the labyrinth of concrete walkways sheltered by iron fences that do not yield any discernible landmarks, save one or two graffiti signs. We do not speak.
