LAST WEEK'S MYSTERY BAND: Many folks suggested the Runaways, or just Joan Jett. This was not so. But our old pal Volker Freitag, writing all the way from Germany, declared, "That's easy! That must be Denise Dufort of GIRLSCHOOL. The girl on the right was bass player Gil Weston-Jones (with the band from 1982 until 1987), who had replaced founding member Enid Williams—who, after several lineup changes, would return to the band in 2000."

Old pal Cari Holmquist also knew the "F.O.M. (Friends Of Mötorhead)," explaining that the band was "formed from the ashes of Painted Lady, they kicked some metal butt back in the day. Remember The St. Valentine's Day Massacre EP that they recorded with Mötorhead? Classic."

Dan McCleary disputes this assessment, slightly. "The fact that I actually own a Girlschool record—the Mötorhead/Girlschool St. Valentine's Day Massacre EP—isn't really anything to brag about, since it reveals my questionable taste and my unquestionable age."

William Lacy wishes to thank all those "cheesy '80s metal magazines that regularly featured Girlschool (and thus my memory of this rokkin' band)!"

Our Alabama buddy Kip Shepherd "was blissfully unaware" that Girlschool had reunited. And Scott Sartorius is also well-'schooled.

This week's Mystery Band—and the members insist they are a band—is presented in order to pay a bit of homage to...well, that's part of the mystery.
