City Paper Review
Its an agreeable enough place, with a solicitous staff, a well-stocked bar, and an unfailingly friendly vibe pervading the bright, plant-lined dining room, but a night out at this Silver Spring restaurant amounts to a midlevel experience, given the prices and especially the sometimes klutzy execution of simple dishes that many good Cuban home cooks can turn out while sleepwalking. All the standards are here; the challenge is in finding just what the kitchen excels at. Tostones and empanadas are consistently dry, the croquetas (and frequently the plantains, too) are mushy, and the black-bean soupfor many the barometer of Cuban cookingis loaded with salt and lacking in savor. Meats here tend to be tough, so opt for preparations that are sauce-intensivethe chicken fricassee, for example, or the ropa vieja, both of which are more than respectable. When it comes to seafood, its best to peruse the descriptive print under each dish for any mention of wine: Both the delicate red snapper, enfolded in a plantain leaf and doused with white wine and onions, and the almost-gutsy garlic shrimp, are superior to the duller cream-based dishes.

I will not refer Cubano's to anyone. After an enjoyable meal with friends --and good service from the waiter--the manager came to our table and informed us that we would have to vacate the table within a half hour because our table was needed. That has never happened to me at another restaurant, ever! My friends and I had been at the table for less than two hours and were in the process of saying our good-byes at the time that this rude request was made.
Shame on you Cubano's. You have lost a formally loyal patron.

Best food and mojitos a cuban restaurant can offer.
The 'Mi Tierra' platter offering three different flavors, beef, pork and chicken is a "value meal" that will conquer anyone's need for authentic cuban cuisine.
Apart from the good food, the atmosphere and decor will make you feel you're at a fancy place capable of impressing any one you decide to invite and take there.
There are veggie plates, and kids can be accomodated !!!
Make reservations for Fridays and Saturdays so you don't have to wait !!!!.
Excellent choice , again an again !!!.

I really wanted to love this place. The decor is so cheerful and warm. The other diners were an interesting mix of couples and families, many of whom appeared to be regulars. The waitress was knowledgable, though not particularly attentive. And the menu offered many interesting choices. I think I just selected poorly. The bean soup was bland. The chicharrones reminded me of frozen appetizers from Costco. And the plantain chips, while delicious, were so hot that it took forever before I could eat them. I'll give this spot another chance and hope I order better next time.

Cubanos was the perfect place to meet for dinner to catch up with a friend. The restaurant is brightly-painted, they serve mojitos, and one can linger without being rushed.

Typical Cuban food that is very well done. The ambiance was superb...almost takes you away from urban Silver Spring hustle and bustle. Service could have been a little more attentive. My two guests never received refills on their drinks, but the food more than made up for the slow drink service.

It seems authentic, and is a feel-goood place.

Cubano's is a real find in Silver Spring. Everyone in our party was highly impressed with the quality of the food. The pork with orange sauce was particularly outstanding. The service was excellent. You will not be disappointed.

The staff is friendly, and the food is consistently good. If you plan to go on a weeknight, they participate in the dining certificate program at restaurant.com. You can buy a $25 certificate for $10.

Everybody seems to love this place but me. I went in for a late lunch on a weekday when hardly anyone else was there. The staff seemed more interested in chatting with each other than in serving me. The kitchen got both my main course AND side dish wrong! This wasn't a language-barrier problem -- the server got it right. When I did get what I ordered, it was about one step above mediocre. Sorry, but there are too many other places around for me to give this one a second chance.

One of our favorite restaurants in DC - tasty food, fun atmosphere, helpful waiters, good mojitos. If you're a vegetarian, it helps if you like plantains and black beans!

I ordered the pork simmered in oranges and it was excellent...very similar to the same dish I have eaten in Cuban areas of Miami. The house mojito was also very good.
Two of my friends ordered meat dishes containing "mojo" as the main flavoring...unfortunately, both dishes were rather bland. The steak was also very lean, making it a little bit tough and stringy.
Vegetarian main dishes are almost absent from the menu (probably a reflection of Cuban cuisine in general; even many of the vegetable- or starch-based side orders contained bits of beef or pork).

Cubanos is a family owned and operated resturaunt, tucked away on a little side street right off of Georgia Ave.
The atmosphere is simple and cozy. For those of us looking for comfort food on a cold, winter night need to look no further then this local favorite. The food was heavily seasoned, even for authentic Cuban cusine. The mojitos were definately on the strong side.
The waitstaff was friendly until about 9:00 p.m. when we were seemingly rushed to finish our food and pay the bill, so they could begin closing up.
Overall, Cubanos served up great atmosphere, average food and a tempermental waitstaff.
