City Paper Review

A local institution, and justifiably so. (Though there are now too many offshoots to count—more than is probably good for quality—the original location, in Adelphi, with its wood-paneled dining room and ’50s-style bar, is the best, if only because of its sense of history.) First-timers are generally taken aback by the rectangular pies, and the sweetness of the sauce, and especially the flaky, almost pastry-like crust of the pizza. New York—style it ain’t. (As if everything in this town should look to New York for validation!) Locals know: The pizza is excellent; the rest of the menu—subs, pastas, chicken dishes—is mediocre. The kitchen does offer up a nice, old-fashioned antipasto, big enough for a table of four.

Some time this (2010) spring, Ledo's will move from its hallowed location on University Boulevard to a new site in College Park. While I want to believe in change, I'm getting in as many pizzas as I can from the old ovens, just in case it's an end of an era. Last night's pies were just outstanding. If you're a meat lover, Ledo's sausage, and especially their hand-cut pepperoni, have to be sampled. My wife's spinach and onion veggie model was almost as good, lacking only, you know, meat.

Nasty, nasty pizza. I know this place is popular and I can't understand why.

It was one of our favorite restaurants until the hostess insulted us in a loud voice the room could hear. Our offense? Our toddler spilled food on the floor. At the end of our meal, we walked out and realized we had forgotten our take-out box. When we came back in, they were still making fun of us. We wrote them an email expressing our dismay. No response. It's hard enough raising kids without all that.

I've had Ledo's pizza before but usually at work; so this time, some friends and I decided to go to the restaurant itself. When we arrived, there was no wait time to be seated and we were immediately given water to drink while we ordered. Our hostess noticed that we had a small child in our party and asked us if she needed a child seat. She said yes and retrieved a seat and afterwards took our order. While waiting for our pizza, the staff was a little unprofessional (i.e. yelling insults at one another) but our pizza arrived in no time. Overall, the food is good, the service is good, and the restaurant was clean and child-friendly. We’ll definitely be visiting Ledo’s Pizza again!

Among the best pizza in the greater metro area. My 4 spork rating is based solely on the pizza - don't bother with most of the rest of the menu (except the soup - see below). There is no connection between this orginal Ledo's and the others that simply bought the right to use the Ledo's name. Make sure you get some of the great, authentic, homemade minestrone soup while you wait for your pizza. The excellent house salad dressing makes the otherwise boring salad another OK starter choice. This place is VERY casual.

When you are hungry and want something to make you stuffed without emptying your wallet, Ledo is the place. Big portions of Pasta, pizza or salad. If you are on a diet, Ledo is not the place to go. The pizza crust was like a pie dough. If you like authentic italian pizza, Ledo pizza will be too greasy and flaky for you. Ledo pizza sauce is very good, a bit spicy but not overwhelming.
