City Paper Review

Situated in a shopping center in Alexandria, Hana Tokyo draws favorable reviews from a trio of raters who’ve sampled it. One rater, who hasn’t tried the restaurant’s hibachi offerings, dubs Hana Tokyo “one of the best sushi joints around”; another, who hasn’t tried the sushi, “was delighted by the Hibachi grill,” adding: “The food was excellent, the entertainment was superb and now I can't wait to go back for sushi next time.” A third ended up at Hana Tokyo after deciding to forgo his normal sushi restaurant. “I ventured in,” he says, “and was glad I did so.”

This restaurant is located in the Foxchase shopping center which recently had a much needed facelift - this has had a great impact on the number of people who visit Hana Tokyo, including myself. I haven't had the sushi yet - but was delighted by the Hibachi grill. The food was excellent, the entertainment was superb and now I can't wait to go back for sushi next time. I do recommend a reservation if you can plan ahead.

Located in a very unappealing strip mall off Duke street is one of the best sushi joints around. While they do have habichi tables, I have never tried the food prepared from that menu. I go back and back for the wonderful sushi. The food is always fresh, scrumptious and visually appealing. The sushi chef is great while the waitstaff are not. Sushi chef is friendly and helpful and the waitstaff can be aloof and rude. Go for the great sushi and ignore the waitstaff.

Instead of going to a usual sushi haunt, I decided to drive and find a new place. I ended up at Tokyo. Having never heard of it, I ventured in and was glad I did so. I got a business lunch there, which was a Califonia Roll, 6 pieces of various sushi, salad, Miso soup, and an orange. I also shared a fried oyster apetizer and a roll that had tuna, salmon, and avacodo. The salmon sushi and part of the roll were excellent.
This place is also a hibachi steak house which I hear gets busy at night.
I will go back there.
