City Paper Review

With its cautious menu of Tex-Mex staples, the Alamo Grill would hardly stand out in, say, Arizona. Plunk it down in Georgetown, however, and it practically shines. The margaritas sometimes a tad syrupy, but the finger foods come through. Flaky taquitos are served with enough guacamole for the entire dish, and the seviche has a fresh, clean finish. Just about anyone can make a decent quesadilla, but Alamo’s are especially good, filled with juicy grilled steak or chicken and maintaining the right ratio of cheese to tortilla. The nachos alone are worth the trip. The chips are light and crispy enough to eat unadorned, yet they hold up well under generous toppings. As for the entrees, the flavors probably wouldn’t ever be described as complex, but the dishes are well-executed. Just don’t expect to see and be seen—the bar tends to be on the quiet side. Still, with good prices and nary a designer label in sight, the Alamo Grill makes for a more than adequate first, or only, stop.

I went to Alamo Grill for a friend's birthday party. My date and I ordered some appetizers and some drinks. It took them a while to get our food out, especially since most of the people there were only ordering drinks. The bartenders were really nice, but the servers and managers seemed annoyed, and didn't really want to take our order. It may have been due to the large party, but I have been there before and the service wasn't that great. It was also not very busy. They did have a little Spanish band that came around to the table, and that was kind of nice. The ambience was nice, but the service was lacking.

Tables were so close together that no lie, our waiter kept bumping into them. Our waiter was weird, very awkward, he kinda hovered over our table and mumbled. In general, VERY over priced Tex Mex. And who the heck serves sangria in a plastic soda cup?

Old El Paso makes better Mexican food. Salt didn't even help. The portion sizes are decent but what does it matter if you have a lot of bad food in front of you? The general consensus was that the food was awful. I did like the black tables with red star in the middle.
