The restaurant has a great location next to the Columbia Heights Metro. The restaurant itself is well laid out and the crowd is mostly young working professionals. The food however is a different story a group of us went to have drinks and apps for the first time the food was average the best thing about the whole meal was half priced drafts, wine, and the grilled squid. The ginger BBQ ribs had no soul and were a little dry the only favorable thing was the sauce. The shrimp was okay the pesto was straight out of the jar and not homemade Costco sells a better brand then the one used. The mussels were average nothing special. The prices are a little pricey especially since the food quality and favor is lacking. This is a good place for happy hour drinks, I would avoid the food and if you get hungry Five Guys is next door. Its a shame because service is very good.

Had an AWESOME dinner at Commonwealth last night! The service was perfect, not over attentive but there right when I needed that second glass of wine. The portions were perfect. I had the grass-fed beef meatloaf. It had mushrooms and a little bit of gravy on top, was served with mashed potatoes to die for and a superb side of crispy and not overly buttery asparagus, green beans and I think some kind of julienne squash. I cleaned my plate. My mom ordered the Cornish hen, it looked gorgeous on her plate and was surprisingly easy for her to pick apart. The meat just fell off the bone, it was moist and full of flavor.

We had the toffee cake dessert, which I loved because it wasn't a super sugar overload. There were litte bits of chewy toffee baked into the cake, mmmm!

I had always had the idea that British food would be too heavy, greasy or loaded with gravy but last nights dinner made me see the light! Commonwealth executed their entrees perfectly and the techniques they use to prepare their food really bring out the true flavors of whatever it is you order.
