The best American style restaurant in the city. The atmosphere is a wonderful juxtaposition of minimalism yet still very warm and inviting. If you are lucky enough to be seated with a view staring directly into the kitchen, you are in for a visual delight. The service was excellent and my waiter was very knowledgeable on the menu. The menu also offers insight to exactly what farm the main ingredient was purchased from. The oven roasted bone marrow is a unique treat that I highly recommend.

Very attractive minimalist atmosphere with a lot of light, excellent but not overbearing service and very tasty and interesting food.

I think the place can be a tad overrated, but the food is consistenly very good. I enjoyed the menu options and like that the ingredients are local. The interior is amazing, as well. I would definitely recommend going out of the way for it at least once.

My new favorite restaurant in DC. Elegantly simple food with an emphasis on each item's natural flavours. A truly classic American restaurant-- reminds me of Montana-- with a comfortable and warm, yet graceful, environment. The details here are well thought-out and include a robust bottle list, though the reds-by-the-glass could use more variety. Arrive hungry-- the starters (especially the lamb carpaccio) and desserts (mm! lemoncello custard) are not to be missed.

The look is sleek - but it's not cold or uninviting. Clusters of wood tables and lowered ceilings in parts of the restaurant inspire intimacy. Service is excellent - all staff is well-informed about the food and the restaurant's ingredients. There is a "tea expert" in addition to a sommelier - and she is honest and helpful. We will be showing up again for the afternoon tea in the main dining room - the tea menu lists a lot of intriguing options, though I'm not enough of a lover to try the $300 version. Since I was on crutches, I was escorted into the dining room through the kitchen, an open swath visible from most tables and the neatest, cleanest, well-groomed environment you can imagine. It looks too perfect - how can they possible be producing food this good in there? Because the food rocks - from the multi-hued beet salad and the carefully crisped sardines for appetizers through the amazing sides that included ethereal creamy sweet potato grits, Brussels sprouts with chanterelles and pistachios, and seasonal arugula; past entrees of melt-in-your mouth beef shank, house-made bratwurst with texture and assertive flavor less the over-spiced slap found in most market brands resting on sweet sauerkraut, and a lobster worth the price of lobster; to a buttermilk cake finale that quietly outshines nubbly New York cheesecake, Accompanied by some truly excellent coffee. I haven't had such a good meal in far too long. And this in a hotel restaurant? You betcha. I felt taken care of - even the next day, when the restaurant called to say it had found an earring at our table and was holding it in the office for us.

It's good to see a chef finally getting back to basics: simple recipes, excellent ingredients, perfect execution. Eveything in there is quite simple and excellent! The burger is the best I've ever had, really! Duck is awesome, Schnitzels are incredible, and desserts are perfect. I almost fainted when I had a scoop of their home made cranberry ice cream.

Ambiance is great too, with a very lively and happy bar area, and a more laid back, country-modern style restaurant.

Service is competent and not too present - no annoying "is everything OK" every 5 minutes! Yes, if things were wrong we'd call you!

This place is exactly what I'm looking for in a restaurant: perfect simple food, not too invasive service, awesome decor.

One drawback: it costs an arm and leg... $24 for the burger, about $25 for the other entrees, about $16 for appetizers... But it's worht it!
