This place is part of the new trend of "fast-cuisine" dining. In my opinion, I would stick to the Thai/Japanese inpired dishes as opposed to the other types of dishes. The Ginger Scones are excellent!!!
If you are not adverse to chicken thigh meat, then the Thai Chicken Curry is very good, otherwise get the vegetarian version.

What a great place for a weekend breakfast/brunch or any day lunch. Lots of fun things to try. I especially liked the ginger scones and eggs with tea cured salmon.

It was my time at Teaism. It was part of a lunch time meeting, and it went well. The food was wonderful. The drink was what really got me. I had the Thai Chicken meal, and it was wonderful. It was a tea that combined cream, ginger and green tea. It's something I never tasted before, and it was something that really was amazing. It was my 1st trip to this restaurant, but it won't be my last.

I really enjoy the Bento boxes they serve here. The boxes themselves are very pretty and the food inside is awesome.

salty oat cookie-highly addictive
This is a great place to drop in and read.
There is plenty of seating so you never feel pressured to get up and leave as more people come in.

I've been to Teaism for lunch, dinner, and snacks, and it's been a good choice for each. The Bento boxes are beautiful, though occasionally I've been disappointed with the quality of the actual food (the sweet potatoes, in particular, sometimes seem a little old). The tea soup (ochazuki) is excellent as a light meal. Desserts are tasty. The best seating is downstairs, where it's generally quieter.

The atmosphere is great! Teaism really captures the Japanese garden ambiance with the Koi near the stairs and all the wood tables and chairs, despite being set in the middle of downtown. The food (salmon bento box) is satisfying in quality, but not quantity, but was just right with a soda or some other heavier beverage. The scones are good, too.
Teaism is a great place to meet a new friend or a group of friends. The menu is diverse enough to have something for anyone to eat or drink, but it's still a hip and quiet little place to hang out and chat. A wide selection of teas is complemented by food choices from around the globe, like vegetarian and seafood bento boxes, curry lentil soup, salads, vegetable tempura, and lovely endings like salty oat cookies and chocolate chunk granola cookies. Teaism also serves juices, beer and wine. The downstairs is a serene Asian-themed oasis with a lilting fountain and a small koi pond. Whether for a cup of tea or a full meal, Teaism is one of my favorite very casual restaurants in DC.

Every time I enter Teaism, even on a sweltering, nerve-jarring day like today, I immediately feel a sense of calm, and I develop a strange and sudden longing for fresh vegetables, seaweed salad, lean and flavorful marinated or smoked fish - and I can't imagine ever wanting to eat a bacon cheeseburger again. Maybe it's the tasteful eastern-inspired ambience, maybe it's the artful arrangement of tasty-looking entrees behind the glass counter, or the prospect of sipping on a cool and sweet (but not too sweet) iced tea. Whatever it is, it keeps me coming back, and it keeps me away from McDonalds. The food is tasty and well-prepared. Portion size is a bit small for the price, but it's worth it when you bite into a shrimp spring roll and taste the fresh mint and cilantro.
Great place for healthy lunch with a tempting list of teas and other interesting drinks, like their ginger lemonade. The bento boxes are slightly expensive but good, and a side of endamame is yummy. For a treat get yourself some salty oatmeal cookies, talk about a flavor explosion!

One of us had a sandwich, although not bad it is not what you should order at Teaism. Go to a sandwich shop. The Indian spinach curry is not up to the level of the Japanese food. Very pleasant environment downstairs.
