Vegans beware! This is a good place to spend some time with friends and have a drink, but don't expect the restaurant to care about your dietary needs or desires.

Argonaut has replaced an innovative veggie burger (made from actual chopped vegetables) with some sort of apple-cheese turnover thing. There are no vegan or vegan-optional sandwiches or entrees left on the menu. This means your options are... wait for it... fries and a salad. Strike one.

The second salad on the menu is advertised with a champagne vinaigrette. Ordered it without the included blue cheese and received a salad covered in what looked like ranch dressing. Strike two.

The restaurant was kind enough to bring me a new salad with a different dressing. The sweet potato fries were pretty decent. But $45 for two salads, two orders of fries, a beer and a club soda is a little steep, given the dubious portion size and mediocre food quality. Strike three.

My friend who was eating with us looked like he was really enjoying his chicken-bacon-ham thing. Maybe if the kitchen put a little more time into the vegan stuff, I'd be back. As of now, I can't say I will.

I always knew this place as a great neighborhood bar, but until this visit I'd never dined there. I went for half price wine night, but even that deal didn't compensate for the food my companion and I were served.

I tried the fried green tomatoes and found them to be tough, and while hot, they tasted as though they'd been fried and left under a heat lamp for an hour or two. The grits had a perfect consistency, but had no flavor, cheddar or otherwise. My date's veggie burger was better received, but still suffered from a mushy consistency and lack of seasoning. On the upside, the giardinera relish included with both dishes was quite tasty!

Aside from this experience I've heard nothing but good reviews, and since it's in my neighborhood I'm sure I'll give Argo another try. I don't know if I can convince my companion to join me again, but either way, my expectations will be substantially lower than before.

my date and i had dinner before a show at the atlas theater. the restaurant was absolutely freezing and although there were only 2 other tables with people at them, the service was painfully slow. i eventually had to get up and go to the bar to ask someone for my check, and then i was charged the wrong amount. twice. the food was just ok for bar food, with the exception of the sweet potato fries, which were wonderful. it might be an ok place to grab a beer for happy hour when you don't have anywhere else to be...but beyond that, i won't be going back.

It's really the only place in the Atlas district we could find to get dinner before a show, but the place was freezing (both of us with coats and scarves on and still shivering), service on the slow side, and the food, while okay for bar food, is still just okay. The best part about the meal was that the tortilla chips were warm, but the salsa was bitter and there was way too much fruit in the house salad. Next time we'll plan to eat before getting to the area.

Great neighborhood bar with amazing service. Everyone was very friendly. As you are waiting for food you have the option to play battleship, pool and other board games. I ordered the fontina and fuji sandwich with sweet potato fries. The sandwich was so-so; it was extremely greasy and there was way too much spicy mustard on it. The fries were amazing. My friend ordered a mushroom and veggie burger - it was mushy and kept falling apart. Her plate was covered with remnants of it when she was finished. She still said it was good though. I recommend checking this place out - especially if you are seeing a performance at Atlas or H Street Alliance.

The argonaut in my oppion is one of the best neiborhood bars in DC. It is the first of a number of bars on the up and coming H St. NE corridor. The staff and regulars, is one of the friendlest and most diverse group of people I've ever had the privlage to meet. The rocky ship feel you get once in, and the chance to get to drink Booty beer sets the whole theme. The food was amazing (for bar food) sweet potato fries to die for. I encourage everyone to find time to make it out to the Argo!!!!
