I ordered a main entree and my friend ordered a salad which he requested to be entree portion. my regular duck breast came out beautiful and yummy, was a bit chewy. my friend's salad plate came out dull and unflattering. it was very biased in presentation and value. and i definitely felt like we were being treated differently because we were not a glamourous party of successful 30-40 somethings who have money to blow on fancy 3-course meals.

Came here for restaurant week and had a marvelous time. Our service was good, with just enough time between the courses to fully appreciate the next. The food was superb... Our waiter was very helpful with his recommendations. Overall a great experience.

We went there for Easter Brunch and were seated immediately upon arrival. The ambience was great- they had a piano player playing appropriate Easter brunch music. The food was just ok though. The lamb was somewhat bland- could have used a little more herbs. The desserts were what saved the meal. They were absolutely delicious. The service was very pleasant and very accomodating.

One of my favorite places for a civilized dinner in the city--particularly pre-Shakespeare Theatre. Consistently good, with thoughtful and attentive service. Excellent value. Sophisticated vodka bar too.

Service was friendly, as well as, quick and precise. The restaurant was filled, yet we felt as if we were the only ones in the restaurant.
Overall, the food was delicious and the desserts devine (chocolate and peanut pate.....WONDERFUL)!

The food was good but the service was terrible. The waiter was unresponsive and did just the bare minimum.
The food came out while we were still eating the salads and we had about 30 seconds before the dessert course. Overall I felt that we were interfering with our waiters free time.

My group of 6 went during Restaurant Week. The restaurant was crowded, and the service suffered. I practically had to stand up and wave a flag to get a cup of coffee during dessert. But being crowded isn't an excuse. I ate at another local restaurant (Fleming's Prime Steakhouse) last night that also was very crowded, but the service was impeccable. The food at 701 was perfectly competent but nothing special compared to the dozens of other upper-tier restaurants in DC. There was nothing remotely interesting about my salmon, and the portions were scanty. My dish was advertized as having "mussels" and "scallops", but I got just one of each. And there were practically no sides to speak of. I got about a tablespoon of some kind of potato concoction (which wasn't bad, but there was simply too little of it to make a judgment). The wine list looked uninspired, and I don't know if there was anyone in the place who could have told me what I should be looking for on that list. In sum, I would not spend big money at this place on a regular evening. It does not stack up well against the strong competition offered by dozens of other DC restaurants in its price range.
