There's a reason that 5 Guys is becoming a franchise leader in the greasy burger category - the burgers are that good. If you're looking for a fancy dining experience or high-end service, look elsewhere. If you're in the mood for a great greasy bacon cheeseburger that's served in a brown paper bag, then this is the spot.
The burgers are awesome, hand-formed from fresh ground beef and always taste fresh, as do the veritable cornucopia of available toppings. Be warned - the regular burger is in fact two patties. If you aren't up for that much burger, order the "little" burger - the single patty variety of the regular burgers. Sure, you'll feel a little emasculated ordering a "little burger" so you probably won't in front of your friends.
The fries are equally as good; they're fresh-cut every day and cooked to order. (Don't be afraid of the cajun fries, they're not too spicy and go very well with the burgers.) To top it off, most locations (including the Georgetown one) serve wine and beer and are open very late (what better way to top off a night of drinking in Georgetown than with a greasy burger?).
If you're in the mood for a great burger, this is the place - hands down. At least until DC gets an In 'n Out Burger.

My best friend came to visit me and we wanted a relatively inexpensive dinner so we stopped at Five Guys after a day of shopping in Georgetown. The experience was one of the very worst I have ever had. We could not figure out where the line began and ended because of how crowded and disorganized everything was. There is a bar that serves maybe 7 beers and a couple types of wine that serves as more of a place to store extra restaurant materials (napkins etc) than as a bar, and it seemed to take up an unreasonable amount of room in the crowded restaurant. When we walked in an employee was changing the trash bags and had set three or four filled trash bags right by the front door and was blocking people's access to the line as well as the entrance/exit. We finally get to order during my turn to order I was interrupted by one employee complaining to the woman taking my order about the "ignorance and stupidity" of the people eating there. After ordering we awkwardly tried to move out of the way to wait for our meal (since there were no tables cleared or some lacked chairs). A gentleman in the kitchen would yell out your number when your meal was ready and another employee closer to the front door would also YELL the number right in the faces of people waiting in line or people trying to eat their dinner. We finally get to sit down with our cheeseburgers and cajun fries to find out that there are two pieces of meat on the burger, which was a little much so we took one off, but would be nice for those with a larger appetite. All of the awfulness of the experience was bettered by the absolutaly outstanding burger. The fries were greasy but still very good. It would take a lot for me to go back because of how frustrating it was, but the burgers were so good I guarantee that I will.

Would you like wine with your burger or a beer. You can get both here.

Much hyped about burger place. The burgers are okay the fries are well prepared but the restaurant lacks any ambiance whatsoever. McDees has better flair.

The staff need to be detailed to regularly wipe the tables down after every meal not just when it is a slow time in the kitchen. One gets the impression that the staff know the management is resting on their laurels so that they need not bust their chops. The rest rooms cry out for an facelift and better fixtures but you might as well be whistling into the wind.

One gets the idea that they know they have a good patty and they know people will come no matter that they say.

Location, location and location is what counts in the restaurant trade and this place has it in spades.
