The Blackie's experience is everything you expect from your standard expense-account destination: The clubby ambiance, the professional service, encyclopedic wine list. But the food really doesn't live up to its accompaniment. From the amuse-bouche that reminded me of the over-mayoed potato salad I used to get from my local deli to a gritty panna cotta, I was underwhelmed--especially at the prices. The Caesar salad was no better than you might find at a Bertucci's or a Macaroni grill; the dressing had NO anchovy flavor whatsoever, though a pair of filets were draped on top. The porterhouse was OK at $39, but unevenly cooked. Only right at the bone was it rare as ordered. The steak was served on an oily blend of squash and waxy potatoes and topped with some overdone crosscut potato chips. One fellow diner was annoyed that the veal scallopine he ordered was actually Milanese--basically Wiener Schnitzel. Desserts are cheap at $6.95, but generally unimpressive. Other diners in the party were happier with the crab cakes and the massive portion of prime rib.
And the wine, a young Bordeaux at $66, was very nice. If the company's paying, by all means indulge, but as a everyday steakhouse for the self-paying customer, it's just not worth it. And as a special-event spot, there's better choices.

I came here for Restaurant Week and was very pleased. The service and quality of the meal was everything I expected. The meat loaf was very well done, and the ambiance was restful and relaxing.

I wanted to take my boyfriend out on his birthday for a very special and fancy meal, so I did some research before choosing Blackie's over other more popular steak houses, i.e. The Palm or Morton's. Neither one of us were disappointed in any way, shape or form! The service was wonderful, however, the waiter appeared a little overly attentive at times (there were only a few other tables occupied in the whole place). The food was unbelievable as it should be for the hefty price tag. The wine (a 1999 Bordeaux) had a beautiful flavor, which complimented the beef very nicely. The prosciutto and mint melon relish appetizer is enough for two to split comsidering the complimentary bread basket given, however it was difficult to eat without (heaven forbid) using your hands. The prime rib was amazing! The cut was huge and cooked correctly with a texture like butter melting in your mouth. I did not care for the side vegetables which were overly salted and not my favorite (squash and carrots). The corn bread was equally mouth-watering and soaked up the juices perfectly. My boyfriend had the New York Strip and at $40, was worth every penny. He especially enjoyed the lightly fried potato cakes served on the side. The lemon tart dessert was rich enough to make you feel spoiled but lemony enough to not make you feel too stuffed. Overall I would go back here every month if I could afford it, but for special occasions, it's perfect!

My out of town guest wanted to go to Blackie's so we did. I was surprised at the political decor. We dined near Harry Truman's hat. The place has a funky bar with stained glass windows creating a "holy" atmosphere. I recommend it!
