Five Guys gives you more for your money. The Student meal is alot of food, and it will definitely fix your fatty craving. But beware, do not make this place a habit, or you will find that you will be buying a new pair of jeans.

Five Guys' burgers are excellent, but the much-talked-about fries are nothing more than imported Ocean City boardwalk fries. Enormous portion size/value for the price makes up for this, but I'd still prefer McDonald's fries if I was committed to such a calorie/fat fest.

There is a new place for burgers in town. Finally, Five Guys has opened a location in DC (others are in NoVa and one in MD). It's bare bones inside - awful bright fluorescent lights, plain-jane wood tables and chairs, and huge quantities of potatoes and peanut oil stacked along the walls (I guess there's not much storage room). Also on the walls: about a hundred reviews of Five Guys meals dating from the early nineties to the present. The menu is simple and if you're a vegetarian, forget it. There are burgers, fries and I think a hot dog listed on the board above the counter. Fries are done in that peanut oil for a yummy boardwalk-style flavor (you can also get them cajun-flavored). They don't ask how you want your burger. Mine came out medium to medium rare. You can snack on whole peanuts (in the shell) while you're waiting for your meal. Portions are enormous - I went with 2 friends and we spent less than $20 for a very filling meal. Unless you haven't eaten in days, a single person doesn't need to get any more than a small fries order. Oh, and there's genuine Stewart's Root Beer in the soda fountain -- a tasty accompaniment to a classic American meal.

Everyone says they can make the best burgers in town. And sure, some restaurants come close. However, if you're looking for a fingerlickingthrowthepeanutshellsonthegroundhowcanIwrapmymoutharoundthat hamburger joint, then this is the place for you! 5 Guys is a tradition in VA and they are slowling moving their fanchises towards MD. I like the fact that the restaurant is simply decorated, you eat peanuts and throw the shells on the ground, and the french fries come in a bag loaded with the peanut oil they are fried in!! This place offers the best hamburgers around. Forget the diet and enjoy yourself!

They are big shoes to fill, but this new location does not live up to its siblings. The space feels like it used to be a KFC, with fluorescent lights and bright white walls. During our time sitting there, two panhandlers came up to us, and when we walked out, there were two people sitting INSIDE the restaurant eating food that was not purchased there (in fact, the fried chicken smell permeated the space).

Sure, this is a new location, and I'm sure there are some kinks that need to be worked out, but the first priority is to have some management. Get rid of people eating other food, clean off the tables after people leave, etc.

Luckily, the food at this Five Guys was just as good as at the others. And in fact, I've never noticed the cajun fries before. Are they new? If so, great addition!

We urban dwellers were excited to hear the burger king was moving into town, but if it's going to be like this forever, I'll make the trip out to Alexandria.
