Service is friendly and the food is good too. Cheap beer specials. Seems kinda shady cause it's behind the 7-11, but you really should check it out. They make a mean burrito and quesadilla. And margarita!

Abi's is a long time favorite where we first discovered papusas. They have excellent lunch time specials where the food is inexpensive, plentiful and filling. I always think of it as Central American soul food -- you just feel better after a meal at Abi's.

Ah, Abi's! The first ethnic restaurant I tried upon arriving in D.C. almost 20 years ago. Since that time, the restaurant has expanded as far away as Langley Park, Md. and Crystal City, retrenched to its Arlandria base, been a favorite of local and travelling rock bands and passed through a number of managing siblings. The quality of the food and service has gone up and down. Still, as evidenced by its longevity, Abi's is a keeper.
And, judged at least by a brunch visit there Saturday moring, Abi's is on a roll. Milanesa de Pollo presented a giant breaded chicken breast, topped by a nicely cooked plaintain. Accompanied by salad, rice and pupusas, the meal can keep you filled the whole day. Indeed, no one can ever complain about the size of portions at this place. The restaurant also presents a weekend brunch menu that provides some change from what you'd expect from a Salvadoran restaurant.
Weekend breakfast is a treat but there's good stuff to be found in many places on Abi's menu. Though stingy with it, Abi's may make the best guacamole in town. Its tamal elote, a corn tamale, is simply delicious.
Abi's prices have crept up over the years and it's cut a few corners. You can no longer count on a free basket of chips with salsa while you wait for your meal. But the food still tastes good and that should keep this place around for a few more years.

This is a great Central American/Mexican restaurant, tucked behind the 7-11 on Columbia Pike near Walter Reed. The chimichangas are wonderful -- large, stuffed with tasty ingredients (and a very good vegetarian version), and because they are grilled not fried, they are not greasy. The platos tipico features a lean strip steak topped with a fried plantain, very tasty. The fajitas are also very good. Friendly staff, and there are always families with children in there. Not fancy, just a neighborhood place, but great food and good value.
