Great neighborhood spot. Food is superb and the prices are VERY reasonable.

Solid lebanese food, but you have to be careful what you order here. Sticking to staples -- grape leaves, hummus, felafel is generally a good bet. But don't expect anything too adventurous here. Solid neighborhood experience. And the belly dancing -- some nights -- and music are excellent bonuses.

A family-run, family-friendly storefront in downtown Takoma Park, the Middle East offers all the standards--kebabs, falafel, hummus, and shawarma--as well as a number of hearty entrees, including a nice selection of vegetarian platters. With rice and salad, nothing tops 10 bucks, so you can perhaps forgive if the lemony hummus is a little pastier than you expected. (The claylike consistency of the dense falafel, on the other hand, crosses the line.) The bright, clean dining room is a much-needed casual option in the restaurant-starved city, and the menu promises the forthcoming addition of not only a weekend breakfast to feed the farmers'-market masses but beer and wine to quench the collective thirst of a neighborhood served by only one bar.

The grape leaves are delicious, everything else is only so-so.
