Go for the booze, not the food. Unless you're famished.

This is a fun, non-fancy place for a drink and snack. There are a few fun veg items, including hummus and pita, "pitazza", fries, and chips and salsa, which are great for an after-work beer and light, cheap snack. The place is unpretentious and great for simply chilling wtih friends. It does get cold at times, and the music is often louder than I wish it were, but I'm pretty particular on both points and others may not mind it.

It's one of those places that's a great place to hang out. This place would be great if you were planning a get together, or a another stop in your club hopping night.

Most of the food at Big Hunt is fine (or better) by pub standards, and there's a nice range of selections on the menu -- pizza, dips, sandwiches and the like.

But what people may not realize is that this place can serve up some of the best chicken wings in the city: meaty, messy, spicy and cooked to perfection. As someone who's looked high and low for good wings in DC, these are as good as any I've had.

The quality can be hit or miss on Tuesday nights, when the post-happy-hour special has them at bargain prices -- so be careful about sending in an order for more than about 30 or so at a time. (If you want lots of 'em, better to re-order.) Orders that are too large will sometimes come out slightly underdone.

The service is fine. They like it if you order beer, and if you are eating wings you will probably want to.

I have been to Big Hunt dozens of times. I have to say while the beer selection is great, it sometimes tastes funny, when it is a draft beer. And the service ranges from excellent to surly. Noteworthy is the basement level, which offers a quieter place to grab a drink. Bathrooms leave much to be desired. It's a dive bar and it always will be. For food, the burgers and wings are the best bets, along with the portabella sandwich. Also, if you sit in a booth, you must order from a waitress, not the bar. The juke boxes are pretty good too.

Great wait staff that were very attentive to the large party. However, it is a very drafty place to be on a cold night.
