We were pleasantly surprised by the services of the establishment, the owner himself even had time to check with us how the food was, and if there were any wishes. We like it 5 star hot, he can go to 7!! The "rijsttafel" is really a must, many different dishes to choose from, and many to share :) The place is full with original imported Indonesian art and even the furniture was imported. Sabang Indonesian Restaurant I can recommend to all food lovers of oriental food.

Wheaton happens to be home to several fantastic, inexpensive ethnic restaurants like El Pollo Rico (Peruvian chicken) and Good Fortune (Chinese), so when I was invited to eat at Sabang, I was looking forward to the possibility of some really good Indonesian food. Sabang's decor was one step up from your average Asian restaurant of salmon-colored vinyl tablecloths, plastic orchids and paper Chinese lanterns. With somewhat aging dark wood chairs with rich burgundy coverings, carved wood statues and intricate wall hangings, the atmosphere was very cozy and warm. At 6:30 on a Wednesday, the place was empty except for 2 other tables. Service was friendly and prompt, and the bottom of the water glass was never seen. My dinner companions each had a Saporro (one of half of which wound up on the floor, but hey, who's counting?), and we ordered the fried calamari for an appetizer. No surprises here -- it was fried calamari with very little embellishment. For the entrees we ordered the whole crispy fish in a sweet brown sauce, Jakarta style beef and chicken curry. The Jakarta style beef they could have just renamed mustard beef, because that's all it tasted like. The chicken was unexciting both in terms of spiciness and complexity of flavor. The fish, however, was cooked perfectly, crisp on the outside, moist on the inside, and the sauce a beautiful balance of sweet and sour.

My overall impression of Sabang was... eh. But I'd give it another try, as the service was above average and it was a comfortable and inexpensive spot.
