This restaurant is always packed on the weekends. Very quiet and best service during the week days. Drinks are at a great price and wonderful live bands. Great spot to meet new people, hear great music, and drink well.

The live band played surprisingly catchy versions of tunes by Lionel Richie, among others. I thought the food was good - very spicy with giant portions. The carnivores in my party said the goat tasted "gamey" but I wasn't sure what that meant. I liked the crowd, which was pretty diverse when we went on a Thursday night. The cons: There was only one vegetarian dish on the menu. Also, service was slow, which was fine because we were there to hang out and drink with friends. But if you're in a hurry, it might be best to go somewhere else.

My first West African experience and it was thoroughly enjoyable. Decor is a little dated/tired, but the food was excellent. Great place to catch real football (soccer) and chill out for a drink.

Great food, good atmosphere. Been there many times for carry out and dine in. Try to go in on the weekends when there is a live band playing.

Although the atmosphere reminded me of way back home in the Islands, (kind of cramped, dry, stale air, a bit rickety, but home) the food was awesome, and the people were very nice and respectful. I loved the food, and almost forgot I was in DC.

If you want an authentic African meal, Bukom is the place. For those who want goat meat and spicy soup, I reccommend this restaurant.
I was not too thrilled with the service. We were the first group to be placed upstairs. It took the servers a long time to come get our order and give us the bill.

Bukom Cafe is a Caribbean/West African restaurant with a live reggae band performing every night of the week. Bukom has a bar with a wonderful Sunday night bartender named Trevor. The servers are friendly, the ambiance is laid back; ideal for a couples night out. The food is delicious with specializations from the Caribbean and Africa. The overall experience is great if you are looking for something to do totally out of your norm culturally.

If it weren't for the service I could give this restaurant a better rating. The food was good, but it took hours to get served. One of our entrees was missing & when we told them what we ordered they came back with the wrong dish. Also, one of our mixed drinks was wrong & when we asked for a corrected one it never arrived. The bad service far outweighed the good eats.
I would only recommend Bukom if you could get them on a good night or if you are willing to wait a couple of hours for your food.
