Great coffee, excellent lunch spot. Cozy and comfortable.

i've always had very friendly service at the dos. good coffee. the frittata special (possibly weekends only?) always hits the spot, as do their bagels and soups. sometimes you have to wait awhile for the food but it's a minor thing. the people at dos gringos make it a pleasure to support them on one of the last main streets in dc that is starbucks free!

Okay, the service can suck on occasion, but if you're into health food, you will love this place. Also, the Belgium waffle with fruit and real maple is a delight. The fruit smoothies are tasty, but small and expensive. They actually serve coffee in a mug, a rarity these days. I eat there all the time!

Alex, the owner, tried to create a nice "hang out" for the wide variety of people in Mt. Pleasant. It worked. While not gourment, it reminds you of that good friend who makes great breakfast at their house...

For those of us who have spent time backpacking in Central America, Dos Gringos is a familiar concept. A well traveled gringo picks the newest hip, ethnic spot to market breakfast burritos and tofu salad to transient twenty somethings who don't believe in Starbucks.

Nice place because there's no other competition in the same category in the neighborhood.
Only went for dessert and coffee but was faced with such atrocious service (while standing at the counter for 20 minutes, had to ask 3 times for the ice cream - before the downstairs ice cream shop had opened to be fair - eventually my husband went in to ask, once he'd finished his coffee outside) that i'd seriously have to think hard about going back.
the atmosphere is cool however and the menu looks great for the tree-hugging veggie types who frequent the place.

Arrived for Sunday brunch at 1 PM to be informed that they were out of breakfast items. The restaurant cultivates an air of informal relaxation (my coffee mug even had a chip in the lip) that unfortunately extended to the service as well. The staff did not seem particularly interested in providing options for brunch-seekers and seemed to expect an innate knowledge of their menu, even if you had never been there before. Our food, an avacado/black bean baguette sandwich and tortilla pie with fried plantains, began arriving approximately 15 minutes after we ordered (the restaurant was nowhere near full) with the tortilla pie being delivered about 10 minutes after the sandwich. The sandwich was very tasty with fresh avacado and lightly spiced black bean spread and the bread was fresh. The tortilla pie tasted fresh, but was cooled when it arrived and shared an unfortunate dryness with the plantains. Overall, the waitstaff did not seeem particularly interested in our experience, and performed the penultimate sin of any laid-back, informal restaurant in the world: charged extra for a refill of coffee. Dos Gringos seems like exactly the type of laid-back (read: mediocre, here) place that survives in an area without much competition, but that goes immediately out of business when some appears. Visitors from Ithaca, NY, will feel immediately, and sadly, at home here.

I have never dined in Mount Pleasant. Dos Gringos is a cute cafe that is housed in an old townhouse. It has a laid back atmosphere. We were given plastic peas as symbol for the waiter to bring us our food. The tables were set in a nice wooden floor dining room. There were "rules" about how long you should stay and sitting with strangers due to the limited space. The sandwhich I ordered was the fresh mozzerella which I found to be ruined by the pesto spread that was smeared on it. The bread was too tough and was not good. My friend had the lentil soup which she seemed to have enjoyed. She thought it needed more flavoring and kept adding peper to it. I would go again and try something else. As we were sitting there, a man came in to meet his 2 friends, 2 girls who were sitting at a table for four switched seats with his friends who were at a table for 2 so the men could eat together. This politeness is not commonplace at many esatblishments. I thought that Dos Gringos has style and a community feel where this kind of thing happens alot.
