City Paper Review

“In India, where religious belief dictate[s] the diet of millions,” this eatery's Web site says, “vegetarian cooking, of necessity, has evolved into a cuisine of inspiring inventiveness.” And the fare seems to win over those raters who have commented on it so far. “This place is great for vegetarians,” says one, who says she skips Woodlands' buffet for its “menu…full of wonderful options.” Adds the rater; “[T]hey have the best mali kofta I have had yet” after trying it at “10 different restaurants.” Complaints are scarce; another rater reports “[t]he food and pricing were both quite reasonable, but the service was terrible -- the staff took forever to take our order.” But “surprisingly fresh and crisp” vegetable korma compares favorably to that dish at other area restaurants, and a variety of dosai are among the features that please the third rater, who paints a different picture of the service: “The atmosphere was jovial and it was contagious,” she says. “The service was very friendly and prompt because the lunchtime rush was minimal the day we went.”

This place is great for vegetarians - I prefer not to order the buffet, the menu is full of wonderful options and they have the best Mali Kofta I have had yet (I have tried this dish at 10 different restaurants).

The food and pricing were both quite reasonable, but the service was terrible -- the staff took forever to take our order.
It's also worth noting that the restaurant is strictly vegetarian (though not vegan, as many dishes feature dairy).

I brought a quasi-vegetarian coworker to this restaurant for her birthday and walked away full and amused. The atmosphere was jovial and it was contagious. The service was very friendly and prompt because the lunch time rush was minimal the day we went(Thursday). I found the quality of vegetables to be surprisingly fresh and crisp while the various curried and spiced dishes were equally pleasing. For example, the classic Vegetable Korma was excellent in comparison to other Indian restaurants I have visited in Arlington and elsewhere in Fairfax. The best part of the visit to this place was the variety. They have about 16 different kinds of Dosai on the menu (light crepe filled breads)which are my favorite vegetarian item. This amount of variety is a real novelty in the NOVA area. It is almost impossible to find vegetarian Indian food cooked freshly and with such a HUGE assortment of items to choose from on the strictly vegetarian menu.
