This is the second time I have been to this restaurant. The first time, everything was perfect. This time, everything was not perfect. Looking back on the experience, I feel that the service was the main thing that was different. The first time I ate there, we had a great waitress who told us where all of the meats and vegetables came from, and got the bartender to make us special cocktails, and it just really made everything better. This time, the waitress didn't know what anything was on the menu, and she kept forgetting things, and didn't make any suggestions at all. I don't really feel that the food was lacking, but while the prices were the same as the first time I ate there, I somehow felt that they were too high the second time. It's amazing what a difference the server makes!

Things didn't get off to a good start, but there were some bright spots. Granted, it was restaurant week, but we had to wait 20 minutes for a table with a reservation. Our server was not a regular server and didn't know much about the food. I ordered charcuterie, which was poorly presented without bread or accents, and neither the menu nor the server could tell me what the meats were. My companions had chicken soup and spinach salad, both of which were okay, but nothing special. Two of us ordered the fried chicken, which was excellent. The third member of the party ordered steak, which had a wonderful flavor and was cooked exactly as ordered. Unfortunately, dessert wasn't as good. We had pumpkin cheesecake and chocolate cake. The pumpking cheeseacke was good -- nothing extraordinary. The chocolate cake was dry (like it had been sitting around in the open allday), but the frosting was fudgy and excellent. It wasn't terrible, but I won't go back.

Ambiance and ingredients are great. Interesting menu - though a little disappointed with their lunch time selections, its less original than it could be. The service was very slow, orders were mixed up, and the bill was wrong. The poor service detracted from the quality of the food. I'd try again but hope to be seated in a different section.

My high hopes for the place were not realized. I had thought a restaurant named Agraria which sources its foods from local farms would at least have something other than the standard fettuccine as an entree option - but alas, no. My beet salad was good, the plate I made up of sides was just ok. My meat-eating companion was initially inspired by the menu but found the food average rather than special (and the amount of vinegar on the spinach salad made it inedible). The dry chocolate cake did not make up for the rest of the meal, nor the fact that they were out of the first two wine by the glass selections we ordered. The waiter was friendly and the best part was the ambiance - the fireplaces, and nice view into the harbor area. I would come back for drinks.
Agraria is beautiful -- but I wish I could see more of it: there is a fine line between ambiance and sitting in a pitch dark room. We went during restaurant week, so the value was incredible, and unlike their unfriendly neighbor at Sequoia who basically ignored us because we ordered the restaurant week menu, we were still attended to. My starter and entree were wonderful, but I have a little gripe about their blueberry bread pudding -- it tasted more like a berry clafoutis than a bread pudding.. and I have to admit, I was a little underwhelmed by the taste. I kicked myself for not getting the lemon tart.

I always love the food at the restaurant and, being sourced from nearby family farms, it's one of the few places where I'll eat meat, but the service has steadily declined since my first visit during Restaurant week in August 06 to my third visit in January. On my most recent visit, the waiter ignored us for most of the night and couldn't answer basic questions about the menu. Best to go on a nice night, sit on the patio, enjoy the food and the people you're with.

With Agraria booked for much of restaurant week, we decided to give it a try a few days earlier. We had heard that the chef had left just before opening and that a new chef was settling in, so we were curious to see what the experience would be like. From excellent service to very interesting and tasty food, we were pleasantly surprised by our dinners. The tomato appetizers and the main courses were excellent - and there was not even a blink at one person's request to construct a vegeterian entree not on the menu. One thing not to be missed is the bread which is definitely not an oversight as it is in many restaurants. I'd like to see what happens in a month when the chef is completely settled in! One note - sitting outdoors at Agraria is great, but the benches for two can be a bit uncomfortable.
