classy place, great ambiance, great wine, a place to bring out-of-towners when we can't leave our hometown silver spring area.....

The New York strip was perfect. The spinach side dish was equally so. Competent help was given with a wine selection. Because it was our anniversary, a complimentary dessert was served.

Try the crab bisque. I only had a bite off my boyfriend's plate, but it was a bite worth talking about for days after. My filet was cooked to perfection, flavorful, and stood well on it's own. The creamed spinich and potatoes come with the meal and were quite delicious. The meal was rich--I brought about half home and couldn't help eating it for breakfast the next day.
Great, friendly service.
Expect kids if you eat early (before a movie)--it is Silver Spring after all.

Thank Goodness for Ray's coming to Silver "Sprung". It occupies the old Crisfields, which I understand never did quite make it as the "upscale" version of its original restaurant on Georgia Ave in SS, but, I digress...If you've been to Ray's the Steaks in Arlington, you will not be disappointed w/RTC in Silver Spring. Same quality of food, same attention to detail by your server, same presentation, same great steaks and more. We started off the night w/a blackened sea scallop appetizer. Cooked perfectly w/garlic and salt, but not too much of either to overcome that wonderful scallop taste. My dining partner and I both had a hunkering for steak, and as I knew from visiting the Arlington location, we would not go wrong here. Both of us ordered the house special meduim-rare, a humongo sirloin the size of our respective heads. The steak came cooked in a dry-pepper rub w/a fresh mushroom and blue-cheese crumble sauce AND was cooked the way we asked. Nothing short of sublime beauty. I can see why Tom Sietsema gave 2 1/2 stars--well deserved. We mated our steak w/a side of creamed spinich, not too salty, not too creamy, but again, just right. The wine selection has something for everyone and we got into a bottle of mid range ($48/bottle) cuvee that was decanted after we requeted it by our server (the only thing I think she forgot the entire night). Finished the meal w/a 'half' chocolate mousse, which was, well, delightful, kinda a mix between chocolate pudding and a chocolate milk shake--creamy, smooth and seemingly endless. But, that's not all. Concluded the great evening by chatting w/co-owner Michael L. on our way out and providing our feedback to him, which he appreciated. We live in nearby Takoma Park and have been looking for a restaurant in Silver Spring to become our "go to" restaurant, like Courduroy in WDC had become for us in the past--a dining experience that had all the angles covered. Well, we've found it at Ray's and you should too. Fantastic!

The space is basically a storefront (lots of windows) and the decor is simple.
The wine decanters, however, have spherical bottoms, a stylish touch that requires the use of tri-point bases. The wine list is long, with a good variety of choices. The markup on the bottles seems reasonable. There is also a good selection of interesting wines by the glass.
The menu is short and basic; but the entrees are popular choices and executed well. Steaks come grilled with a choice of coatings/seasonings/sauces. Fish is also available.
Service was prompt and attentive. Free valet parking is provided; and the restaurant is conveniently located across the street from the AFI theater.
Ray's the Classics is a welcome and very popular addition to downtown Silver Spring.
