One of the best little BBQ places around in my opinion! It's always busy, which says something right there. Try the Soul Rolls when you're there next. They're bbq egg rolls served with a meaty cheese sauce. They're a meal all by themselves. The brisket is to die for! Good luck finding a table at dinnertime though! Mostly a carry out place.

Come hungry for a good value and quality eats. As a meat eater (meat and potatoes make up my primary diet, along with alcohol), I can say with some certainty that Urban Bar-b-que is the best bar-b-que joint in Montgomery County. I have had most of their menu and find that their meats is good quality and the portions sometimes more than I can eat. I generally get the ribs, which are relatively cheap and very tasty. The full rack is a great deal, but more than most people can eat. I like their sauce rack (which is available for sampling) of 50+ sauces. They also make two sauces, a yellow and brown sauce. I prefer the brown sauce (a Western Carolina variety), which is sweet and tangy. Old Dominion Root beer and peach ice tea is on tap. PBR is available by the can for that down-home feel. I appreciate the no frills atmosphere and that they seem to have a sense of humor. From a sanitary perspective, the bathrooms are clean.

Urban has become a regular haunt for me because it is hands down what a BBQ joint should be. Quirky, fun, and great food. While it may not be an open pit with a pile of wood out back (as if they would allow such a thing in Rockville) the food is finger licking good.

If you can find better wings, I'll eat my hat. Meaty, just spicy enough, great blue cheese to go with them, and falling off the bone. Grilled, not breaded and fried, these are the Holy Grail.

The pulled pork was a huge portion, nicely smoky without being fatty. The BBQ chicken (I had the dark meat) was flavorful and Soul rolls are a heart attack waiting to happen, and soooo good. The mac and cheese is wonderful, the slaw nicely tangy but chopped not shredded. Where else can you get collard greens? Fries need to be eaten there, they get limp if you take them home, and the BBQ beans can be a little overwhelming for some (not me). The folks there are friendly and polite and will always be willing to explain the "oddities" on the menu. I've seen all types and classes of people in there, from businessmen in expensive suits to grandmothers with kids. Everyone seems to be having a great time, and I've never heard anyone say they wouldn't come back.

This is the best place I have found for take-out bbq and comfort food. My favorite is the pulled chicken dinner with collard greens and cornbread. They have a variety of dipping sauces to spice things up a bit if you are so inclined. The people are always super-friendly and fast. There are a few stools if you want to eat there, but you would probably more comfortable taking it to go. Very affordable yummy meal!
