This was as close to India as you will get. The portions were huge and the food was excellent. Just the right blend of spices. The service was good and they had fun drinks too. It is a 2 level place and the decor was straight out of Deli. 5 forks

Simply good Indian cuisine with a clean modern flare. The menu offerings are endless and caters to diners looking for authenticity and those who are sampling Indian fare for the first time. Warm and inviting, Indique is a nice little find in the city.

This is great Indian food done right. Having lived in India the food is the closest to real Indian this side of the Atlantic I have enjoyed to date. It is typical of a restaurant in any major metropolitan city in India. The decor too represents an Indian restaurant.

Some items are new world imports to the Indian palate - Quail and calamari. Both are enjoyed in India but we have never seen them on a restaurant menu. The tried and tested are also represented, the butter and tandoori chicken. The restaurant should try variations on these themes and perhaps offer a whole chicken rather than pieces.

In India, restaurants offer papads and pickles on the house. In DC you have to pay for them. They are like salsa at a Tex Mex eatery you would not pay for that. It is an affront to all Indians to expect them to pay for these. Other than these tiny bug bears this restaurant is a hit. Go soon & often, enjoy.

Finally a reason to go to Cleveland Park besides the Uptown and Vace. I've yet to find and Indian restaurant in DC that I like better than Haandi in Falls Church but this place is getting close. Nice blend of flavors and good preparation of a limited menu.

The daal is excellent. The eggplant bertha is good but a tad spicy. The chicken tikka masala is great. Good wine list, nice bar (stools are hard to sit on though), and the potato pancake with spicy peas appetizer was quite good.

The plates and presentation were lovely.

The title says it all: Indian AND Unique. Atmosphere was very attractive and exotic. The food was presented beautifully and tasted great (a little spicy for my taste, but I have a rather low tolerance for spicy foods). Service was attentive without being overbearing, although the waiter brought me the wrong entree (it was a miscommunication; I wanted to try what he brought me anyway). Overall, a nice spot for something different, fun, and delicious.

Modern Indian fare served in beautiful surroundings on Veleroy & Boch.... Tamarind Margaritas, Mango Martinis , assorted small plates, and friendly service makes this place one of it kind.

Very nice Indian food. Although the portions were somewhat small at lunch, the food was very reasonably priced and came with bread, salad, and entree for $9. Lunch menu is somewhat limited, but overall a nice time.

I especially liked getting to sit outside on a balmy Saturday night. It's worth getting there early for the seats.

I have been to Indique a few times, it is always delicious. We sat in the bar last time, due to the wait for the dining room. The bar is small, but we were seated right away and served very quickly. The chicken curry is my favorite.

Truly a great indian restuarant has arrived in DC. I am of Indian heritage and I can finally say that the food is as good as a homecooked meal and sometimes even better since when was a last time an Indian mother made Mussels, Crab tikki, Tandoori King Shirmps. Just delicious. The atmosphere is great, beautifully decorated & quite chic but gives off warmth. The service is extremely friendly from the time we arrived and were taken to our table to the time we left the restaurant. Easy to see that everyone working there enjoys themselves quite a bit. I would to if I were surrounded by those aromas all night long.

A great addition to Cleveland Park. I highly recommend this place.

Very friendly and professional staff. Excellent service and great ambiance. Our experience was picture perfect. We had two kids (ages 5 & 7) in our group, they loved every moment of the evening.

I would recommend this restaurant for every occasion to celebrate, just make your reservations ahead of time, if you are a large group like ours.

I often fly solo to Indique for a quick drink and a meal at the bar. The bartender is helpful in suggesting dishes, serves great drinks, and plays great music. I have also taken dates there for a relaxing evening, and often when I am there it is couples who fill the tables. The atmosphere in this restaurant is very comforting, and the menu is indeed unique. There are extensive choices, from small starters to the heavy and delicious, like the lamb vindaloo (careful, this is very spicy). You could do tapas and only order the small dishes, or be perfectly full from one of the main entrees. Stop by Indique for dinner, or just for a drink and a snack. You won't be disappointed.

Interesting variations on many traditional dishes--all executed very well. My only criticism was a little too much attitude. The hostess acted like it was an extraordinary accommodation to seat us (we had no reservation) even though we were the first customers of the evening. In fairness, though, the place was nearly full by the time we left.

Whether you're from India or not, it's difficult to NOT enjoy this gastronomic experience. The food is simply, and I do mean simply amazing. Just the right amount of seasoning to let the flavor of the food stand out. The presentation is grand, the drinks are up to par with the food. I recommend the Almond Martini...actually the entire martini list is amazing. Save room for dessert, it's well worth it. Every part of India is represented, North, South, East and West, some of which has the addition of a flavorful Western influence. Go- try, and enjoy. I know I have, and look forward to it everytime.

While I consider this among the best Indian restaurants in DC, the service can be a tad spotty and disorganized. While an outdoor seat sounds like a nice idea, the service tends to be delayed and the Connecticut Avenue noise can get in the way of dinner conversation. The tandoori dishes are superb, and a selection of the naan and kulcha breads should not be missed. Also, a recent visit ended with a lovely cardamom ice cream dessert, among the best I have tried. They will make special requests, such as adding paneer (home made cheese) to the spinach saag dish listed on the menu. For Indian food fans, do not miss this jewel but make reservations for an indoor spot!

Really good Indian food, more upscale than some. Tried two vegetarian dishes and both were very good. We had a birthday party and they let us bring in a cake, which was cool. The menu has a little more variety than other Indian joints.

As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by two very attractive hostesses although very polite & sweet, one gracing a beautiful sari and the other in an all black ensemble.

The restaurant is beautifully designed and decorated and filled with rich aromas that makes one crave for Indian food that much more. I personally couldn't wait to sit down and get started on what seemed to me would be a great dinning experience.

As soon as we were seated, our water glasses were filled and we were greeted by our very outgoing yet restrained server (who seemed to have the floor all to himself). After about two minutes our server asked for drinks and led us through the wine as well as the cocktail & martini menu. We all had tons of questions for him about the menu as well. He seemed to know the menu quite well and if there was a question in his mind, he brought the manager right away to give us a proper answer rather than making it up.(In my book a true sign of excellence)

As for the food...well I don't know if there are words to describe what I had...our table split the shrimp varuval(very spicy but worth it), cornish hen & the mussels w/ naan to sop up the broth...All extremely delicious.

For the main entree, my party shared all dishes, ordering the notorious chicken tikka makhani, Baingan Bhartha, Lamb shank, & shrimp goan curry. Everything we ate, touched, smelled was just beautiful. The presentation was done cleverly on a plain white, albeit an odd shaped plate. I can honestly say that as an Indian, I have never had such good Indian food anywhere in the DC/Metropolitan area...it truly is as good as a home cooked meal.

I highly, highly recommend this place although I do also recommend making reservations if you want to be seated in the upstairs dinning room as suggested by the hostess particular for Thursday through Saturday nights.

Indique has gotten rave reviews, but my experience there knocked down more than a few stars from all the ratings. For a venue offering entrees of $18.00, patrons should not have to ask for menus or extra seats to accomodate the number of people in the party. Servers should also never ask patrons to pass plates to one another or for assistance in clearing the table. A slap on the hand to Indique.

Having lived in the UK sporadically for 6 years, I have long been looking for something to satisfy my South Asian fetish...Indique provides this opportunity. The quality and variety of Indique's dishes will satisfy American and even Indian taste buds. Most Indian restaurants feature northern Indian cuisine, whereas Indique offers some unique dishes from Goa and Tamil Nadu, in the south such as Appams (a spongy fermented rice bread similar to Ethiopian/Eritrean varieties) with Ishtew (stews). Among the dishes we sampled were the Chicken Ishtew, with a succulent coconut curry ginger sauce, Vegetable Samosas, a classic but still executed to perfection and a Paneer Makhani, an Indian cheese dish with a well flavored tomato sauce. Meen Porichathe, fish wrapped in banana leaf with ginger, tomato and spices will be something I will be trying on my return visit.

The decor is additionally a feast for the eyes, with beautiful arches, low lighting and tables set around a type of courtyard, as well as on the balcony. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of service and food at Indique and anxiously await my next visit.

Indique is a great addition to DC's lackluster restaurant scene. It has a modern, warm atmosphere and the food is consistently excellent and often unique. For example, I highly recommend the calamari appetizer, a dish that I've never seen on the menu of an indian restaurant before and suspect is not easy to come by in India.

Indique serves a mix of traditional and nouveau Indian cuisine at affordable prices in an attractive, refined atmosphere. It is easily one of the best Indian restaurants in the city, and definitely worth making the trip in from the suburbs.
Four of us went there for dinner on a Friday evening. We had reservations, so we did not have to put up with the awful wait that I had heard about. The host offered to seat three of us immediately upon our arrival, despite our being early, but we declined in favor of waiting at the bar for the last member of our party. The bar area is rather cramped, definitely oriented towards people waiting for tables as opposed to a destination in and of itself.
We found the service to be perfectly fine. Our drinks were refilled as needed, the appetizers came out well ahead of the meal, and no one's order was messed up. The only time we had any problem was getting the check, which took maybe a bit longer than it should have. But we did not experience the service problems we had heard were endemic to the restaurant.
Seemingly half the tables in the classy but not flashy dining area were occupied by Indian families, and after eating at Indique, I understand why.
The food is top-notch. It is equally as perfect a restaurant for introducing a friend to Indian food as it is for dining with someone who has very high standards for Indian food. The "First Tastes" section of the menu is comprised of fifteen small plates, from which you can choose one as an appetizer or put together a meal from three or four. My friends ordered vegetable samosa, which were exactly as they should be: filled with vegetables, not greasy from frying, and not doughy but flaky. I tried the aloo tikki, which is a plate of two small (and yummy) potato cakes with a ladleful of cooked chickpeas in a sweet and spicy chutney. It was the perfect size for an appetizer, and very tasty.
Two of my friends ordered the chicken tikka makhani, which is essentially the traditional butter chicken dish, but with just enough spice in the super-creamy tomato sauce that fans of chicken tikka masala will not be disappointed. I tried it, and it was superb. Another friend ordered the chicken curry Indique, which was fine, though I could have stood for a slightly thicker coconut milk curry sauce. I had the Tamilnad fish curry, and it was out of this world. The white fish, served in a perfectly textured and slightly spicy tomato sauce, was baked until it was delicate and easy to cut into, and it was very flavorful.
All of us also ordered paratha, which is a leavened whole wheat bread. At Indique, it's slightly chewy, easy to pull apart, and very, very satisfying either by itself or used to scoop up your entree.
Indique has rocketed to the top of my favorite Indian restaurants list. Give it a try.

Absolutely loved this place. The food is excellent at a very reasonable price and they have very innovative drinks, including the tamarind margarita and a delicious almondtini. The service is excellent - I will definitely be going back!
