Standard bar food, the Capitol Hill crowd you've always heard you'll meet in D.C., and pleasant, efficient service. The historical stuff on the walls seems pretty interesting, too, although the place is so dark (and so often crowded) that you'll have a hard time getting a good look at it. If you're a fan of the kind of sandwiches that come slathered with Russian dressing (and both the taste and smell of beer), this is the place for you.

They should serve free shots on your way in here, just to get this crowd loosened up! Just because you work a day job doesn't mean you have to act like it at happy hour! Carry your briefcase, don't live in it!;-) But, any place cool enough to host a DNC Convention happy hour is cool enough to have a bit of my money:-) (Oh, and the beer selection wasn't bad.)

So I've been working on the National Mall for two months now and I have just been put on to the infamous HAWK N DOVE!!!!! Good times had by all, especially our crew of 13 who slaved all day in the hot ass sun, assembling the WWII memeorial reunion!
Here we go, first things first, there's a barback who works there who looks like Mayor Williams; kind of creepy and sexy, huh?
Buffalo wings and yuengling makes the Hawk and Dove a great place to wind down.
A+++++++
While I love the zucchini sticks that accompany my pint of Smithwick's in the evening, the brunch at the Hawk and Dove is less to be desired. I am constantly in search of the perfect Eggs Benedict in my bruncheons in DC and this was definately one of DC's worst. The eggs were not poached, the hollandaise sauce was runny and did not have a defined flavor, the ham was a single slice of paper-thin-lunch-meat atop a stale English Muffin. The broccoli accompanying the dish was overcooked and was a putrid green and mushy. I did not mind the homestyle potatoes. They had a defined flavor where, unlike many restaurants, you did not need to add your own salt and pepper. The toast was soggy and cold by the time it came to our table. Now the service at Hawk and Dove is never really exceptional, but you don't go there for the service. You go there for the atmosphere and you definately do get that. In my future I'm going to stick with my evening visits and enjoy my zucchini sticks. I'll add this to my long list of restaurants that cannot make a perfect Eggs Benedict.
