The Pixies at DAR Constitution Hall Monday, November 30

Coke or Pepsi? PC or Mac? Album version or “U.K. Surf?” As with all great questions, there’s no easy consensus when debating which iteration of Pixies’ “Wave of Mutilation” is best. Rock Band sides with the former, which is insanely poppy despite its tempo shifts and screechy guitars. The aptly named latter—a B-side recorded in London—is placid and deliberate, a calm counterpoint to frontman Black Francis’ nautical, rabidly surreal lyrics. Tough call, and good thing, then, that Francis & Co. are performing both versions, along with every other track from their influential 1989 album Doolittle, on their current tour. The show also promises every relevant B-side, which is more blessing than curse, as long as you take that bathroom break during “Bailey’s Walk.”

PIXIES PERFORM WITH JAY REATARD AT 7 P.M. AT DAR CONSTITUTION HALL, 1776 D ST. NW. $55. (202) 628-478.

Not worth the $60. And $30 tshirts? That's not punk, that's capitalism.
