The Mass Shivers at the DC Mini Gallery Friday, July 24
The Chicago-bred band Mass Shivers installed Talking Heads 2.0 on its recent two-song single, Torrid Sex In East Berlin. The group’s previous hard-driving rock sound has been upgraded to funk-bass lines, overdriven guitars, Latin percussion, and yacht-rock vocals. These seemingly dated influences, however, are a feature, not a bug: Mass Shivers drags its influences into the present with goofy promotional videos, tongue-in-cheek lyrics that mock the Cold War, and giddy dance-rock tempos.
MASS SHIVERS PERFORMS WITH THE ALPHABET, HELLO BABIES, GREENLAND, AND WILD FICTION at 8 P.M. AT THE DC MINI GALLERY, 4702 14TH st. NW. $5.
