The seem sequential to me, although it sounds as if the phone messages might have taken place over several days the escalating nature is fairly obvious.
The last tape (clip 10) seems to be a hidden dictaphone either in her pocket or purse and continues for some time after the transcript indicates. It almost sounds as there was some physical altercation between them.

Look, I am really sick of this. Domestic relations is at a all-time low in this city. Just go down to Family Court to see what the numbers of people that need intervention in order to settle disputes or to simply get people to leave them alone. There is nothing funny about this one because it could have escalated further and someone could have been physically hurt.
Now, what bothers me is the fact that Mr. Barry sends his spokeswoman to the steps of the Wilson Building to defame Ms. Watts and to cite the fact that she is seeing a psychiatrist. This really turned be off because most couples in domestic disputes might need a little counseling to sort out their domestic and emotional problems. Bad strategy on Mr. Barry's part. It just shows that strategy does not always work and it sometimes backfires.
What is most interesting is that Mr. Barry is now claiming mental anguish to both himself and family members. Won't he have to visit a psychiatrist to substantiate this when he attempts to sue the US Park Police? Reading these transcripts makes me believe that some form of police intervention was needed simply to cool some tempers until everyone involved took a simple look at the problem.
Mr. Barry, I remember walking the streets wholly embarrassed by the t-shirts that read" The bitch set me up." Let's face it, you have a lot of people who do not appreciate your capacity to denegrate women on on hand, and then bask in their genoristy, prayer, and love on the other hand. I, personally, am pulling for you to move past this last episode. But you can only do this if you stop the "pay for play" game and look at people not as political minions, but as authentic human beings.

D.C., government is so corrupt. Most of the people in high government hire aunts, cousins, and friends that have no experience. A lot of people in the government don’t even do the jobs they are assigned. I have watched first hand how people use this government as their personal piggy bank. Setting up phony conferences, and workshops, hiring friends as guest speakers and paying them with contract money. Spending money furiously at the end of the fiscal year so they can get the same or increased budget for the next fiscal year. Going to expensive spas out of town and listing them as retreats or workshops for continuing education credits. Filling out travel expenses for a working lunch at a fancy restaurant on their leisure. Submitting phony cab receipts and car mileage for reimbursement. Using petty cash to shop for themselves and ordering office supplies to stock their home office. This woman was on Barry’s payroll.

I believe this was blown out of context. If he wasn't a council member you wouldn't have heard about it at all. Mr. Barry should try to pick a different type of women to associate himself with. The contract she received I don't believe was obtained against the regulations governed by Contracts and Procurement. The first thing I am upset about is the fact that I just sat here and read all of this nonsense. Yes there were some truthful comments made. However, former Mayor Marion Barry is who he is. Citizens of the District of Columbia and other African Americans in the Metropolitan area will not go against this man. It is what it is, whether it be right or wrong.
No one, especially in our nations capital, should be surprised at the level of corrupt politics, local or federal. We all know how SOME people get these jobs/contracts. It is truly about who and not what you know. And while I am one of those who will always support Mr. Barry, if we are honest about his character, his election will produce jobs for those with like-minded values and morals.
I support him because he is human, and has no choice but to be transparent in his problems. Our allowing them has caused him to develop what appears to be a nonchalant attitude to his indiscretions. People continue to do only what you allow them to, and this includes everyone, be it city councilperson, mayor, or president.
Unfortunately, if Mr. Barry is reelected, he will continue to give jobs to people some would question. But if he keeps getting chances, why shouldn't he give others those same concessions?
Shame on anyone who thinks that the few dollars they get from attempting to manipulate this old playa will amount to anything once your character is deemed questionable in a city where you live, raise kids and will have to eventually TRY to work in again. What did she really think she would accomplish anyway?
And Mr. Barry, please report to the National Office of Certified Playas and turn in your Playa card as your membership and benefits have been revoked due to the fact that you are slippin'! I moved to DC several years ago to work for District government, and am still shocked and amazed at how polarizing a figure Barry remains. When I listen to locals speak about the great things he has done for the city, it appears that they are remembering a time 20 years ago, when Barry was relevant.
This latest scandal is a profound embarassment to the District and to Ward 8. This is what happens when citizens start crowning leaders as kings, and excusing and rationalizing their behavior, no matter how unethical or illegal. Barry is not the best that Ward 8 has to offer, and it is time the citizenry in Ward 8 begin to recognize that. The true power in Ward 8 comes from the people who live there, and that power should be bestowed upon someone who works solely in your interests. Barry serves himself first and the constituency last. Purportedly Barry has done great things for DC and Ward 8, but at what cost? As an elected official your are SUPPOSED to serve your constituency! Why does Barry get a cookie for doing exactly what he is PAID to do?! Barry isn't even contrite about the matter, essentially telling the press that he would do it again. Really? Come on folks, how many scandals does it take?! Blindly following a corrupted leader, no matter what, will take you right over the cliff with them. Gain some perspective here, he is not Jesus, and he doesn't walk on water.
This city has fallen into an abysmal pit of corruption and self-dealing by both local and federal lawmakers, and at some point it has to end. While Barry's actions may not be illegal (jury is still out), they were clearly unethical. As humans, we make mistakes, but the standard of conduct for elected officials is high, and rightfully so. If Barry lacks the discipline or fortitude of character to at least attempt to be an honorable leader, then he doesn't deserve the position. And if the "faithful followers" can't see that a disgraced leader has not only compromised himself but YOUR interests as well, and that ultimately YOU pay the price for his selfish indiscretions, then grab a fork and a knife and wait for him to serve you another plate of humiliation. It is his specialty.
