Katie creates unique handbound books in her home-based studio where she has surrounded herself with functional antique book presses and tools of the trade. Inspired by treasures she found in vintage shops, Katie upcycles materials by giving them a modern twist, e.g., combining the 2nd century Coptic binding technique with LEGO baseplates to create her popular Build Your Own Cover Books. Katie repurposes her childhood stamp collection into covers for travel journals and insets bug trading cards into decorative cloth bindings. Her books are surprising, innovative, and functional. Katie works as a professional rare book conservator and teaches bookbinding locally.
