Young & Hungry commenter Eli warned me that the vegetarian torta at Super Tacos & Bakery fell into the "low-bar options" category among the city's meatless sandwiches. I, like Frances "Baby" Houseman, am not afraid to slum it. That doesn't mean, however, that I'll ever except American cheese. (Do you hear me, Bobby Flay?) But that didn't derail the entire torta. Here, let me break it down for you with the help of the outlined photograph above.

1) Like I said before: American cheese is a no-no. It doesn't really taste like anything and, seriously, why is it that color?

2) As this is a vegetable sandwich, the produce should shine. Here, the zucchini was cooked well and retained a nice snap.

3) I usually look to a nose-clearing mustard for some heat in a sandwich, but this long strip of jalapeño will do quite nicely!

4) Details count and grilling the inside of the bread kept the loaded sandwich from turning soggy.

5) I would rather have no tomato at all than eat a mealy slice. I applaud Super Tacos for using a quality tomato.

6) Is there ever enough avocado?

Bonus: I know you were wondering about my polish.

(Check out some tantalizing pics of the food here.)

The menu includes all sorts of shout-outs to other U.S. cities with nods to each place's distinctive foodie culture. There's a "Philadelphia Burger," for instance, topped with provolone cheese, griddled onions and hot peppers; a "Buffalo Style Burger," with hot sauce, blue cheese and watercress; a "Dallas Burger," with coleslaw, Monterey Jack, barbecue sauce, and pickles; heck, even a "Santa Fe Burger," with queso sauce, pickled jalapeños, and blue corn chips. Los Angeles and Napa Valley are represented, as well.

One glaring omission, though—no D.C. burger!

Young & Hungry, for one, feels that Flay isn't fully embracing the culinary diversity of his newest location. "Washington has become such an important food city," the man himself tells Eater DC. Then why no Washington mention on the menu?

Come on, man! Let's get creative. How 'bout a beef patty topped with bisected half-smokes, smothered in Ben's-style chili? Or, maybe a crispy fried chicken patty doused in D.C.'s indigenous mumbo sauce?

What toppings would you tell the star of the Food Network's Throwdown With Bobby Flay to put on his missing D.C. burger?
