TaKorean Brings Korean-Style Tacos and to Navy Yard

TaKorean opens its second non-roving location in Navy Yard today with limited hours. A grand opening is scheduled for Monday, but stop by for lunch today and get three tacos for $7 instead of the regular price of  $9.

The fast-casual restaurant will have the same menu as its Union Market counterpart with tacos, slaw bowls, and rice bowls. Each can be topped with a choice of proteins—bulgogi, ssamjang-barbecued pork, chili and soybean paste-marinated chicken, and hoisin tofu—sauces, and slaws, including kimchi, spiced kale, and Napa cabbage-romaine. Also look out for Korean-style chips and salsa with multigrain blue tortilla chips and a dip made out of roasted tomatoes, tomatillos, gochujang (Korean chili paste), and ginger. 

Unlike the food truck, the stationary shop can sell alcohol. Owner Mike Lenard says the new spot has three beers on tap: Angry Orchard Hard Cider, Allagash White, and Atlas Brew Works District Common. There is also one sake and one soju available.

The 40-seat space was designed by Edit Lab at Street Sense, which is also behind places like Daikaya and The Red Hen. Outdoor seating is in the works.

The restaurant will be open today and tomorrow during lunchtime only and will be closed over the weekend. It will expand to full hours Monday for its grand opening. The TaKorean food truck will continue to operate as usual.
