Oval Room Will Undergo Renovations at the End of June
Longtime power restaurant Oval Room is finally getting a makeover. The 20-year-old dining room will close on June 30 and reopen in August with a new look and new menu.
Owner Ashok Bajaj has hired New York restaurant designer Martin Vahtra of Projects Design Associates, who designed Rasika West End as well as Nopa Kitchen+Bar, to come up with a new "sleek" look for Oval Room that will include "bold art pieces, theatrical lighting, plush fabrics and rich, deep accent colors of burgundy and blue," according to a press release.
As a send-off the old Oval Room, chef Tony Conte will prepare some of the restaurant's most popular plates throughout the month of June. Among the dishes to expect: Pastrami-cured kampachi with Chinese mustard, tomato jam, and pumpernickel; Cassia butter-poached lobster with pearls of peach and wasabi, and lemongrass broth; and truffle pasta with truffle fondue and shaved summer truffles. Two courses for lunch will go for $25 and three courses for dinner will cost $50 (excluding tax and tip).
