Where to Eat and Drink Like a Champ During the Sochi Olympics
As the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics kick off today, so do the food and drink deals. A number of bars and restaurants are offering Olympic-themed cocktails, extended happy hours, and discounts for patrons sporting red, white, and blue. FREE (AND DISCOUNTED) FOOD AND DRINKS FOR THE GOLD
A.G.B. Restaurant & Lounge at The Graham hotel
1075 Thomas Jefferson St. NW
A.G.B. will be serving free Gold Medal shots or glasses of Prosecco every time Team USA wins a gold medal. The lounge is also featuring a Sochi martini made with fresh caviar and Russian Standard, in honor of this year’s host.

From Feb. 7 to 23, Bar Rouge will host an extended “Rouge, White & Blue” Olympic happy hour every night from 5 to 8 p.m. Specials include $6 house wine, $5 draft beer and rail drinks, and signature cocktails for $7. Happy hour appetizers, like roasted garlic hummus and buffalo wings, will also be discounted. More importantly, if Team USA wins any gold medals that day, all food on the regular Bar Rouge menu will be 10 percent off from 8 to 10 p.m.

In honor of the only Mexican competitor in the Sochi Olympics, skier and prince Hubertus von Hohenlohe, MXDC will offer everyone in the restaurant a free tequila shot and Dos Equis beer if Hohenlohe wins a medal. Unfortunately, the 55-year-old’s chances are slim, but the restaurant is also offering $3 Dos Equis throughout the duration of the Sochi Olympics.

Kimpton’s Topaz Bar will host a “Go for The Gold” happy hour every night throughout the Olympic Games from 5 to 8 p.m. The happy hour specials include $4 draft beer, house wine for $7, and $8 rail drinks. The bar also offers a variety of appetizers from their newly revamped menu, including yucca fries, lettuce wraps with chicken fried rice, and sliced ahi tuna with cilantro and balsamic reduction. Guests will also receive an additional $1 off the bill for every medal won by Team USA that night.

Show your American pride and wear red, white, and blue to get 15 percent off any lunch menu item from Feb. 6 to 20. Both brewpub locations will offer the Olympics-themed deal Monday through Thursday during lunch hours (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.).
SOCCi Urban Italian Kitchen and Bar

Starting on Feb. 7, SOCCi Urban Italian Kitchen and Bar at The Renaissance Arlington Capital View hotel will host its own 2014 SOCCi Winter Games every Wednesday night during the Olympics. Competitors can enjoy spiked snow cones and items from Chef David Creamer’s new "Bits and Bites" menu while going head to head in a game of Wii U ultimate sports. Guests wearing USA colors will also get 14 percent off their tabs and be entered to win a weekend at the hotel with dinner and breakfast for two.

The limited edition drinks include a SnowFlake boozy milkshake with house-made vanilla ice cream, Oreo cookies, and Kahlua at Burger Tap & Shake and a cocktail of Camarena Blanco Tequila, Midori, Triple Sec, and orange juice (“La Verde”) at Fuego. Keep your receipts! Passion Food Hospitality is offering a Gold, Silver and Bronze loyalty card prize drawing for those who try all seven drinks, six drinks, or five drinks, respectively.
Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken

Astro Doughnuts is offering a Team USA doughnut: a vanilla glaze confection with raspberry drizzle, blueberries and “USA” piped in chocolate. The two presidential-themed restaurants will feature three Olympic medal-themed cocktails every day starting at 4 p.m. throughout the course of the games. The three drink specials—Gold, Silver, and Bronze—will be $10 each.

From now until the end of the Olympic Winter Games, the Loews Madison Hotel will serve Moscow Mules with Russian Standard vodka, Fever Tree Ginger Beer, and anise- and cinnamon-infused simple syrup in classic copper mugs (please don’t steal them!).

The Russian eatery will kick off the Sochi games with an Olympics happy hour on Feb. 7 from 6 to 9 p.m. Patrons can enjoy a complimentary vodka shot and free bites from a pirozhki tasting station. The restaurant will also add three traditional Sochi dishes to their menu throughout the games: beef shish kabob, solyanka soup, and khachapuri (a traditional Georgian dish of cheese-filled bread).

On Feb. 15, when the Czech Republic plays Switzerland in ice hockey at noon, Penn Social will be the first bar in the country to serve Czechvar Dark Lager on draft. Watch the game on the bar’s 22-foot HD screen.
