No New Lease Yet For TruOrleans Space on H Street NE, Eviction Process Ongoing

tru_orleans-1

The building at 4th and H Street NE once home to TruOrleans has been sitting quietly vacant since September when the the D.C. Office of Tax and Revenue shut down the restaurant amid a flurry of financial and legal troubles.

Rumors started circulating on Twitter last night that a Mediterranean and tapas place would soon move in. But this is not yet the case. Landlord Darryl Pounds says there is no lease and that eviction proceedings against TruOrleans are ongoing. He's filed a notice to quit and a court date is coming up on Nov. 20. Pound says he can't start marketing the property until TruOrleans is officially evicted.

Nonetheless, Pounds says he's been inundated with calls from people interested in leasing the property—from local groups to national players to former TruOrleans employees. One thing he knows for sure: "I want something that's friendly for the neighborhood."
