A new Southern-themed bourbon and craft beer bar called Barrel is on its way to Capitol Hill from one of the owners of Union Pub and 201 Bar.

While you’ll have to stay tuned for the exact address, owner Matt Weiss says he plans to open the new spot late this year or early next. For drinks, expect barrel-aged cocktails, infused bourbons, and a strong whiskey, rye, and bourbon list. Chef Garret Fleming, who formerly worked at The Pig, is creating the Southern food menu. Fleming is also in the process of opening his own restaurant called Gristle, which is separate from Barrel. The menu, still a work in progress, will likely include items like charcuterie, a fried pork chop sandwich, South Carolina-style pulled pork, fried oysters, smoky onion soup, smoked brisket, and more.

Stay tuned for more details.
