Reality TV Couple to Open Restaurant in D.C. (Updated)
D.C. has its fair share of reality TV cooking show stars with their own eateries (Mike Isabella, Spike Mendelsohn, etc.). But a chef pedigree is no longer a requirement for reality TV restaurateurs. First The Bachelorette and Bachelor Pad contestant Chris Bukowski opened Bracket Room in Clarendon. Now, Bill and Giuliana Rancic, stars of Giuliana and Bill on the Style Network, are opening a location of their restaurant RPM Italian in D.C.*
Giuliana Rancic, a Bethesda native, announced the news on The Tommy Show this morning. She says it's slated to open in 2015. The restaurant also has a location in Chicago, "which is like the hottest restaurant right now in Chicago, two-month waiting list," Rancic told radio hosts Tommy McFly and Kelly Collis (a Washington City Paper contributor).
Rancic says the most popular dish at RPM Italian is Mama DePandi's bucatini, a recipe from her mother. The dish will also be on the D.C. menu, and Rancic says her mom even plans to make appearances. Check out the full menu here.
UPDATE: In case you are wondering if RPM Italian really is that hot in Chicago right now, Y&H called over to the restaurant about its "two-month waiting list." Turns out there are several openings tonight.
*CORRECTION: An initial version of this story stated that RPM Italian was opening in the former Buddha Bar space at 455 Massachusetts Ave. NW. The landlord of that building informs Y&H that this is not the case and that they are in negotiations with another group. Y&H has reached out to RPM about the exact address and will update when we hear back. UPDATE: A rep for the restaurant says a lease has not been signed. The rep says she is "95% sure" that space that Rancic mentioned on the radio is at 601 Massachusetts Ave. NW.
