JG_TwitterIron Chef star and Philadelphia-based restaurateur Jose Garces will join the legions of celebrity chefs flocking to D.C. to open restaurants. Garces plans to open an Argentinian steakhouse in the Loews Madison Hotel at 1177 15th St. NW in early 2014. The restaurant will replace The Federalist, which will close this Sunday.

I'm excited Garces is coming to D.C.! I've easten at several of his Philly spots and enjoyed them all. I'm less excited about the concept, however. Steakhouses continue to languish and die in this area -- don't chefs do their research before opening? There's this big stereotype that DC people are all eating at steak places, but when you look at the busiest (and top-rated) restaurants here, they aren't steak places. Hopefully the menu will be innovative and go beyond steak, or this one's sunk already.
