Chef Cathal Armstrong Is a National Taekwondo Champ

For the second year in a row, Restaurant Eve chef/owner Cathal Armstrong took the gold medal at the USA Taekwondo National Championships.

The chef is now a black stripe belt, which is one level away from a black belt. He fought three people in the 41 to 50 age division during the competition, which was held in Chicago.

Armstrong started the sport more than two years ago as a way to lose weight. His kids (and namesakes of his restaurants) Eve, 14, and Eamonn, 11, are also into Taekwondo. Unfortunately, due to injuries, the two former silver medalists were unable to compete at this year's nationals, although they did go to cheer on their dad.

And in case running six eating and drinking establishments and being a Taekwondo champ aren't enough, Armstrong is currently in Ireland wrapping up photography for his forthcoming cookbook My Irish Table: Recipes From the Homeland and Restaurant Eve.
