A neighborhood bar called Ivy and Coney is on its way to 1537 7th St. NW in Shaw. The small spot comes from Kangaroo Boxing Club co-owners Josh Saltzman and Chris Powers along with bartender Adam Fry and Jamie Hess, formerly of Blue Banana.
“I used to live right around the corner from this spot, so I always lamented the fact that there wasn’t a neighborhood bar,” Saltzman says. He was vague on details but describes the concept as a “chill place to hangout.” Unlike Kangaroo Boxing Club, it will not serve barbecue.
The team just signed the lease and is working on permitting. Saltzman is equally vague about an opening timeframe: “anytime between September 2013 and June of 2016.”
