Taan Closes in Adams Morgan (Updated)

UPDATE, 5:28 p.m.: Taan isn't closing after all. Read more here.

Adams Morgan ramen shop Taan has closed after less than eight months of business. The restaurant tweeted the news this afternoon, and then followed up with "it is a total bummer and it has been my whole life....was not my decision" and then "changing the concept...apparently..."

It's unclear whether chef Jonathan Bisagni or someone is responsible for the tweets. Calls to the restaurant went straight to voicemail. Y&H has reached out for more information, and we'll update if we hear back.

UPDATE, 3:20 p.m.: Bisagni was, in fact, responsible for the tweets from Taan's account. He tells Y&H that Ahmed Ouihman, who previously operated Marrakech Lounge at 1817 Columbia Rd. NW, had subleased the space to Taan owner Samir Tazi. Bisagni says Tazi hired him and was present for the build-out, but after the restaurant opened, he was hardly ever around. "I saw him maybe once a month," Bisagni says. Then about two weeks ago, Bisagni says Ouihman came in and changed the locks and said he was the new owner of the restaurant.

This morning, Ouihman fired Bisagni and told him he was closing the restaurant and changing the concept. Bisagni did not know what the new concept would be. Ouihman has not responded to requests for comment.

Bisagni, whose resume includes stints at Kushi, Toki Underground, and Sticky Rice, isn't sure about his next move. "I'm probably going to skip town if I don't find anything worth staying for," he says. "The only reason I came back to D.C. was to open this restaurant."

That's too bad. I really liked their ramen.

Something is missing here even though its a subtenant they still have rights unless they were in default or were on a month to month basis. Even still in the later they'd likely get more the 2 weeks notice. Perhaps you hsould be reaching out to Mr. Tazi not the chef
