Taqueria Nacional and BakeHouse Now Open
Taqueria Nacional, reincarnated from its previous location near Union Station, comes from Johnny's Half Shell owners Ann Cashion and John Fulchino. Tacos are the first order of business, obviously, with fillings like chorizo, pinto beans, chicken, fish, lamb, carnitas, and steak. Best of all: breakfast tacos. An egg and green chili variety is available all day, but egg with cheese and eggs with bacon or chorizo (as well as huevos rancheros and cornmeal pancakes) are only available weekends from 10 a.m. to noon. Taco prices range from $2.50 to $3.50. Other menu items include quesadillas, tostadas, and yucca fries.
Over at BakeHouse, owners Niall Cooper and Lindsey Morse are turning out sweets beyond cupcakes. They've also got truffle tarts, brownies, bundt cakes, cookies, and more. (We've got our eye on the Chinese five-spice sugar cookie.) BakeHouse also has a number of breakfast options: English muffins, scones, oatmeal, biscuits, and breakfast sandwiches. And no breakfast would be complete without bacon, so check out the bacon and date scone and sweet and spice brown sugar and bacon muffin. Oh, and there are sandwiches for those craving something more savory too.
