Fuel Pizza will replace bankrupt Upper Crust Pizzeria at 1747 Pennsylvania Ave. NW near the White House.

Co-owner Jeremy Wladis tells Y&H he expects the 40-seat pizzeria and wing spot to open in late March or early April. Another Fuel Pizza will open at 2301 Georgia Ave. NW near Howard University in late spring or early summer.  The Charlotte, N.C.-based chain already has locations in Chinatown and on K Street NW.

Wladis also says he’s looking into making the New York-style pies more “artisanal,” although he wouldn’t go into specifics.

“We’re really excited about this location, and we’re potentially thinking of tweaking the concept to make it a little bit more interesting and upscale,” Wladis says. “I can’t really go any further than that now.”

Stay tuned.
